Yes, Freedy Johnston did his California Thing and it was immortalized on his 1992 album Can You Fly. When you're an artist you can go one of two ways: east or west and he Kansas-born singer-songwriter Freedy Johnston went east, landing in New York after college. Firmly planted in the 212, Johnston worked odd jobs and wrote songs and after keeping at it, he signed with the fledgling indie label Bar/None and that kicked off a career that has yielded classic albums like This Perfect World, Never Home, Back On The Road To You and, of course Can You Fly, which, after almost 30 years is available again in a remastered on CD and clear vinyl pressing. More on that in a second. Johnston has worked with Butch Vig, Aimee Mann, T-Bone Burnett, The Embarrassment and John Dee Graham, he's played all over the world, been praised by everyone from Rolling Stone to The New York Times, had a hit song with "Bad Reputation," played Conan, SXSW and signed to a major label. It's a partial list, but you get the idea: Freedy Johnston has had quite a career. With a new album on the way, Johnston has never sounded better. And Can You Fly has never sounded better either; a storming set of jagged pop like Trying To Tell You I Don't Know and In The New Sunshine along with wistful ballads like Tearing Down This Place and We Will Shine, Can You Fly is a timeless classic that remains dynamic and vital.

Thirty years ago, LA producer Aaron Paar realized his dream of launching a label with the debut of Worldship Music, dropping the now cult classic Planet Eater EP in the late summer of 1995. Crafted on his newly acquired SP1200 and refined with mix engineer extraordinaire Greg “Ski” Royal, the record became the label’s very first release and a true vanguard single. Overflowing with the raw swing and deep grooves of classic US house, these tracks still radiate the timeless energy of the mid-90s underground. "Carlo Simula is an italian DJ and digger, producer, label manager and author for the much-revered Overfitting Disco blog, focusing on all things disco, especially weird and wonderful european and worldwide obscurities.

It is fair to say that Carlo is one of the most knowledgeable people on the planet when it comes to Italian disco records from the 70s and 80s. 
2015 saw him officially reissue a cult 1981 7" record - Andromeda by Andromeda - on a 12" numbered vinyl including his respectful extended edit, as well as a remix by italian pioneer dj Beppe Loda, that marked the first release on his own “Disco Segreta” imprint. 

From there a string of top notch quality releases, such as Gino Pavan, Susana Estrada, those by Miro (Brina - Stranamore and Pat&Pats - Tobago) to the ones lined up in the future, the label has now become a quality guarantee among DJs and collectors of previously undetected, yet very danceable, 70s Italian and European disco music and 80s italo-disco.

Lover of fine sleaze, off-key singing, flanged drums, vocoders, drilling synth lines and - in general - anything that failed the charts, Carlo's selection often touches assorted Italian weirdos, as well as French, German, Spanish and other countries' disco music, all played on vinyl only, for the real deal experience, careless of any fashion."
