In a world of fast fashion and same-day delivery, it is often cheaper to buy a new coat than to fix a zipper. Or easier to toss out an old blender rather than swap out a blown fuse. But for those who would like to give their items some more life – either for environmental or sentimental reasons –there’s the Fix-It Clinic. The Hennepin County Fix-It Clinic is a monthly gathering where volunteer ‘fixers’ work hand-in-hand with people to revive their broken items. Reporter Matthew Schneeman attended one of Hennepin County’s clinics for KFAI to see how they work.

Meet some real America. Joe is a fabulous artist. Like most humans also hopes for things to get better and that's absolutely reflected in his music and lyrics. It was Joes lyrics I was thinking of when trying to write this. Stylishly he is very skillful at being literal with explanation but retaining the poetry and rides the line of what's too much which a lovely subtlety.

Weak minds will die out because their ideas are weak... It's evolution baby. Just because you Think! Ughhh the world of trump is right.... Evolution doesn't give a shit! You're fucked unless you change and look at trump for what it is or your ideas will burn away along with him... You'd do well to stop labeling everything too and bolting yourself to one label on everything. That's what religions did and caused wars because of for millenia. I am an Earthling human. That's it. Now let's all play properly. SCIENTIFICALLY

My own example... After 911... I too, for a very short period of time, believed thermite brought down the twin towers. I was in the same mode as Trump supporters. Too afraid of my own individual ineptitude to start soul searching that a bigger global problem was the perfect escape. Looking out instead of looking in. If you are open to believing anything you are told... start believing something and then get that confirmed by another human. You've got yourself a cult. That's all... the only difference this time is that you have managed to form the biggest cult of bullshit ever...It will still burn away. Don't let other humans confirm a bias you haven't genuinely figured out to be real... How qualified that person is in the subject is a good gauge on whether you should believe them or not!

That said obviously take everything I say with a pinch of salt! I play guitar and sing! So for climate change you might find James Lovelace a good reliable source for building your ideas about Earth and how we balance ourselves properly as part of the planet 🫶🏼 Our only Planet we're ever going to enjoy! Don't listen to clowns talking about terraforming planets! Let's figure out and master Earth. Then in a couple of hundred years our Grandkids can worry about other planets safely

Single Use Plastics

When you throw something away, it’s gone as far as you are concerned. But in fact, it’s still around and will most likely end up in a landfill. Landfills are where solid waste goes to build up into unpleasant mounds and where organic waste, like food that is thrown away, goes to fester and decompose, giving off huge amounts of methane gas. Methane is one of the most potent greenhouse gases and a big contributor to climate change.

Whether you call it trash, waste or garbage, it’s in our interest to reduce the amount we generate, so that less is sent to landfills. In this program, we are getting to zero waste with Richard McHale, Director of Austin Resource Recovery.
