Cari-Jazz 8tet pays tribute to the fantastic Caribbean’s Jazz scene through rearrangements of songs written only by Caribbean composers. These magnificient compositions are reframed for an octet and infused with Hard Bop and Swing by Belgian arranger & band leader Alexis Nootens. 

Green Eyes is a popular song written in 1929 by cuban composer Adolfo Utrera. The song became a classic and many arranger and orchestras added it to their repertoire. This arrangement is inspired by two versions, the head is a reduction I made from Les & Larry Elgart's version (The New Elgart Touch, Columbia, 1965, arranged by Charles Albertine), the solo changes come from Jamaican pianist Cecil Lloyd. His version can be found on the fantastic compilation 'Jamaica Jazz 1931-1962' (Frémeaux & Associés, 2016).

Rumba flamenca, also known as flamenco rumba or simply rumba style of flamenco music developed in Andalusia, Spain. It is known as one of the cantes de ida y vuelta (roundtrip songs), music which diverged in the new world, then returned to Spain in a new form. The genre originated in the 19th century in Andalusia, southern Spain, where Cuban music first reached the country.
The rumba flamenca instrumentation consists of flamenco guitars, hand clapping, occasional body slapping, castanets and the cajón.
In this mix we have selected some records from Spain that we have dig and found in the last few years, from rumba flamenca to rumba catalana with many influences: Gipsy, Arab, Latin, Psych, Funky and much more.

To talk about Soleá Morente is to talk about a crossroads. A place where different paths meet: some come from pop, others from flamenco, others from rock, electronic, shoegaze… And just at the point where all these paths come together, she is born. Territory that, until now, no one had ever covered before. Mysterious, unknown. That, among so many other things, is what is so exciting about her journey.

Born in Madrid, but with roots in Granada (where she lives), daughter of the maestro Enrique Morente and the flamenco dancer Aurora Carbonell. Sister of Estrella Morente and Kiki Morente.

Soleá Morente is a unique character on the Spanish music scene because she has always been permeable to other musical references and styles. For this reason, is really difficult to talk about an artist that is so rich in references, styles and nuances, capable of bringing together musical parameters that would normally be thousands of miles apart, and that come together with excitement and brilliance, emotion and intelligence.
