Rust and Gasoline

...well, I guess THIS Interbay track won't get any play on terrestrial radio.  

This house track has a skip, a bounce, and a chorus that includes the f-word.  It could hardly NOT include the f-word, considering the source of the vocal samples here (taken from the FAR superior original UK version of a popular US tv show--and no, I'm not talking about The Office.)  

Can you mix food and dance music?  Well, it's not like swimming, where we're told not to do it until an hour after eating (though that's since been proven to be meaningless advice.)  I think this latest Interbay track proves that you can--especially if it is lovely, perfectly cooked, linguini...from La Laterna in Letchworth.  

...which sadly isn't there any more.  (A fate shared by most of the establishments featured on that show--though, on my honeymoon, I did take the opportunity to have some Yorkshire Roast Beef with Yorkshire Pudding and Real Gravy at one of the most memorable establishmments that was on that show...and it was absolutely delicious.  That place, too, is now no longer in business.)  

As far as the music here, it's a pretty straightforward house track--as I mentioned, there's a skip to it--but that doesn't make it UK Garage.  It's not that--though, considering the vocal sample source, wouldn't have been the worst idea, come to think of it.  Maybe a remix in that direction at some point?  

I like the arrangement here--it has good structure, the sounds are chosen well (I think), and there is upwards progression through the song, which...is a good thing if you happen to be dancing to this and the dj isn't too busy in the mix (guilty as charged with that--which makes me wonder what I would do if these Interbay tracks were available when I was dj'ing.  I'd probably find new and interesting ways to scramble them all up--that's what I did with OTHER people's music.)

The Rustic Signal has been lit once more! After performing in front of the camera for RESOLUTION and THE ENDLESS, Peter Cilella now steps behind the camera for his feature film directorial debut DESCENDENT (2025)! We've been looking forward to more directorial work from Peter since we saw his short film OCCUPANT a few years back, so we were very excited to check this movie out. It was a blast to discuss, and we hope everyone enjoys our conversation. As usual, we get into spoilers pretty quickly in this review, so we absolutely encourage everyone to check out the movie first. I’ve always lived at the crossroads of music and poetry — where feeling becomes form, and melody turns memory into meaning. Whether it’s a lingering jazz note, a well-placed rhyme, or a shift in tempo that tells a deeper story, I’m drawn to that quiet magic where art reflects life with a little more style.

My roots are in classic music — the kind that doesn’t chase the moment but lingers with you long after the last note. Over time, that love expanded into poetry writing and jazz — especially the kind that swings, speaks, and smirks all at once. Jazz, to me, isn’t just a genre; it’s a personality. A conversation. A little tilt of the head and a grin that knows more than it says.

When I set out to create an album, it’s rarely just a collection of songs. I approach it like a personal playlist — one that drifts and flows as if the entire tracklist were one long, uninterrupted piece. Each track leans into the next, shifting mood, pace, or voice, but always carrying the same thread of feeling. I want you to listen the way I do — not as a shuffle of moments, but as a cinematic arc. One breath that lasts an hour.

Lyrically, my work is rooted in lived experience. Sometimes it’s obvious. Other times it’s just the skeleton of a memory, dressed up in wit, irony, or longing. I draw from real-life events, then let the poet in me twist, stretch, or sweeten them to taste. Depending on the tone of the album — playful, romantic, nostalgic, or something in between — I try to keep the emotional truth intact while giving it a fresh coat of creativity. A little humor where it fits. A deeper dive where it hurts.

My newest jazz album continues this tradition — short-lined swing tracks, conversational duets, and tongue-in-cheek storytelling. It’s an homage to late-night alleyway ballads, rooftop serenades, and train station goodbyes — all bound together with a sense of charm and cohesion. Each song is its own little scene, but together they tell a story — one you can revisit with each replay.
