Dr. Dhiren Shah, a renowned Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeon and Director at Marengo CIMS Hospital, Ahmedabad, shares invaluable insights from his medical journey in “Saving Lives, One Heart at a Time: The Story of Gujarat’s First Heart Transplant Surgeon.”

Dr. Dhiren Shah brings over 20 years of experience and has successfully performed more than 17,000 open-heart surgeries. Originally from Gandhidham, Kutch, he completed his MBBS and MS in General Surgery from B.J. Medical College, Ahmedabad, and earned his M.Ch in Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery from the prestigious G.B. Pant Hospital, New Delhi. Dr. Shah is the Chief Heart Transplant Surgeon and Director of the Heart Transplant and Mechanical Circulatory Support Program at Marengo CIMS Hospital, one of India's most advanced and eco-friendly medical institutions, which he co-founded. Dr. Shah is a pioneer in Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery (MICS) in Western India and has introduced several firsts, including Gujarat’s first heart transplant, India’s first hybrid CABG, and TAVR procedures. First to do Transaortic TAVI of India .

Dr. Shah has received specialized training in leading global centers including Vietnam, Germany, the USA, and Switzerland in fields ranging from mitral valve repair to artificial heart and LVAD implantation. He is a Vice President  of the Indian Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation and a member of the Heart Failure Society of India, Joint Secretary of Society for Coronary Surgery. Dr. Shah leads a dedicated team of 7 surgeons, 4 Anesthetist , 4 Perfusionist and 6 ICU specialist at Marengo  CIMS Hospital, consistently performing over 1,000 cardiac surgeries annually. His areas of expertise include complex bypass surgeries, heart failure surgeries, valve repairs, and pediatric cardiac interventions. 

Dr. Dhiren is married to Hetal Shah, an architect by profession, and is the proud father of two daughters,  Dr. Navyaa and Uditi.
