Is Catholicism Christian? 

This is not a harangue against Catholicism, but a discussion of it in the light of Scriptures.

Many of the differences between Catholicism and evangelical Christianity spring from the two different views of authority. The Catholic has two authorities: the Church and the Scriptures. The evangelical church submits to God through the Scriptures.

If you can’t trace what you believe all the way back to Adam and Eve, you may be in a cult. On the other hand, if we discuss the issue solely on the basis of the continuity of institutions, the Catholics would have it sewn up. Evangelicals also need to establish a connection to the apostles—but there are two ways of doing this.
