Arthur Schopenhauer, a German philosopher from the 19th century was quoted as saying 'It's better to be a happy animal rather than a suffering god'.

I've recalled that phrase many times over the years when my head was so full of ''Stuff' that I needed to just switch off for a few hours to give my head a break. In other words, if it all gets a bit too much, go away and play at something, laugh, smile, have fun! His phrase would usually ground and reset me during those 'Overactive Brain' times.

Recently, I've been thinking more about this particular phrase that's helped me out over the years.  

Why not take that phrase apart? What does it mean and how would it impact different people through different interpretations?🤔

Suntem mai morali cu sau fără religie?

Analizez un eseu despre religie scris de Schopenhauer, în care germanul creează două personaje în opoziție: Philalethes (ateu „Nietzschean”) și Demopheles (religios „Dostoievskian”), după care citez un articol scris de Žižek în 2024 despre o interpretare mai neobișnuită asupra ultimului roman al lui Dostoievski, Frații Karamazov.

Majoritatea cadrelor (B-rolls) au fost filmate de mine în Firenze (Florența), Italia în aprile 2024 (de la străzi la Palatul Pitti și Muzeul Uffizi).

Philosophy (Part 1)

Schopenhauer's essay on genius contrasts the vast majority of humanity, whose intellect serves only basic needs, with the rare few who possess genius. Genius, he argues, involves a dual intellect: one serving the will, the other objectively observing and mirroring the world, resulting in creative works. This second intellect operates independently of the will, often leading to a solitary life and a lack of worldly success, but providing profound inner fulfillment. Ultimately, genius's impact on the world is significant, though often only appreciated posthumously.
