Irish producer Scoobz made himself known within the Irish electronic circuit through a first place finish in the nationally renowned AVA Festival 'Emerging DJ Competition' before going on to capture the attention of national audiences with support from Avalon Emerson for his track 'Goth Culchies' as part of her BBC Radio 1 Residency.

Brought up in the sparsely electronic music-populated landscape of rural County Donegal, Scoobz’ infatuation with club music started from listening to the deep sonic knowledge and playful mixing style of 2ManyDJs and Erol Alkan at Belfast institutions such as Twitch and Shine.

Now a Dublin Digital Radio resident, Scoobz presides over the show Sluggish Selections which showcases the slower styles of electronic music with a strict rule of not exceeding the 125BPM mark; something that makes him stand out almost as the antithesis of contemporary club culture, as the DJ and producer seeks to recapture the classic, headsy grooves of House, Disco and Electro.

The producer’s latest offering, ‘Sabata’ is a dual-single inspired by the mixing aesthetics of Midland; touching on elements of Chicago House, 70s Funk and Classic Disco that pushes a serious groove with just the correct dose of silliness.

‘Analog Buzz’ takes on a slightly more driving aesthetic. Designed more for a sweaty dark room than a sun-drenched festival crowd, it wouldn’t sound out of place being played during Trash’s heyday; an electronic club track with a post-punk attitude.

"The ‘A Routine Day’ EP is inspired by this sense of place, inspired by the timeless sounds of local producers such as Jordan Nocturne & Krystal Klear. The EPs title track is a cut of ‘lights up’ disco-house, combining percussive drum patterns, kaleidoscopic atmospherics and tasteful soul samples on a club finisher that will send the dancers home with smiles on their faces and tears in their eyes. 

‘The Last One’ opts for a heads-down approach; a cut of pulsating acid with plenty of moments for the dancefloor. The rough nature of the acid and the pleasant, odd-ball flavour of the atmospherics provides the perfect combo for absolute club chaos. 

‘Twitchin’ lends its name from iconic Belfast club night Twitch, who have been running parties in the city for nearly two decades. It’s the type of track that Scoobz ‘Sluggish Selections’ was created for; chugging electronics, Italo-flavour and reverberating synth-lines cast a nightmarish embrace upon its listeners, lulling them into the murky depths, before the EPs most emotive track arrives at its climax, with the Bicep-esque breakbeats and moment-building nature of ‘Arp Sailing’ "
