I wrote 5 of Swords right after a 36-hour crash out. It's the kind of collapse where time stops behaving and everything feels stretched thin and heavy. This was the first song written for the project, born in that raw, blurry place where exhaustion turns existential and every step forward somehow loops you right back to where you started.

In the world of ROADRUNNER, this is the breaking point before the story even begins. It’s the moment where the self is frayed, patience is gone, and the weight of your own thoughts becomes its own battlefield. There’s no victory here, no revelation. It's just the quiet surrender of someone falling on their own sword because there’s nothing left to fight with.

Sonically, 5 of Swords feels like limbo: droning, restless, cycling in place. Vocals that sound like someone barely staying upright, production that circles back on itself the way the mind does when it’s tired and spiraling. It’s meant to feel suspended like the days are too long, the nights too loud, and you’re waiting for something to break that never does.

German-born spiritual teacher and self-help author Eckhart Tolle once wrote, "Acknowledging the good that you already have in your life is the foundation for all abundance." &nbsp;I found this to be true in my life as well, and as it turns out, expressing gratitude isn't just a sound spiritual practice. It's essential to our emotional and physical well-being. &nbsp;According to a recent study performed at Harvard Medical School, "Gratitude is strongly and consistently associated with greater happiness. Gratitude helps people feel more positive emotions, relish good experiences, improve their health, deal with adversity, and build strong relationships."&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;How can you reap the benefits? While there are many beneficial exercises that can help you cultivate an attitude of gratitude, such as journaling, morning or evening reflections, and performing acts of kindness, many people focus their thoughts outward (Ex: I’m grateful for my children, a roof over my head, my job, etc.).It’s easy to lose sight of the good in ourselves.
