1992 - Guitar Music For Sex

I’m so grateful to have contributed a set of patches to Sequential for their new Trigon-6 polyphonic analog synthesizer. Trigon is their unique take on the classic 3 oscillator and ladder filter design - with all the modulations and effects of a modern Dave Smith synth. I’m really proud to have been a part of this project, and I hope you enjoy this audio demo of my latest sound design work.

Get the original versions at http://bit.ly/ftrmnlp    In 1982 Futurisk re-recorded 4 of their best tracks from the "Player Piano EP" which was originally recorded in 1981 on 4-track cassette and released in 1982. This time they went to a professional studio, Ocean Sound in Fort Lauderdale with the intention of releasing an album, which never materialized. This is the version of "Lonely Streets" that came out of those sessions. I tried to compare the same settings. The Prophet-6 is mono and bypassed the FX-Section. First example ist he Prophet-6, second the Prophet-5

I compared:
Brass
Unison Pulse-Bass with a bit glide
Pulse Pad
Pulse Strings
Oszilator 1 Saw
Oszilator 1 and 2 Saw with slightly detune
Both Oszilators Saw synced and unison
Oszilator 1 Saw Sweep
Oszilator 1 Triangle
Mixing all waveforms
Mixing Saw and Pulse
Mixing Saw  and Pulse unison and glide

In all examples there is no additional mastering, eq or fx.

Testing out my beloved 1986 Prophet VS after replacing all of the tantalum capacitors.  Twice in as many months this beast had let the smoke out due to failing caps so I though it was high time I did something about it!

This is a patch I programmed a few months ago whilst trying out the superb new Stereoping hardware patch editor - heck did that little box open up this wonderful digital-analog hybrid vector synth...

I have always liked the sonic aesthetics of cold crunchy digital into warm analog filters!

D.A.Wilson is an Electronic Engineer, Sound Designer & Vintage Synth Specialist with a particular interest in combining vintage tube, classic analog and modern digital technologies working as a synth engineer looking after a very considerable amount of vintage studio equipment for Will Gregory (Goldfrapp / Moog Ensemble) and a number of other internationally celebrated electronic musicians and producers.  Having undertaken several major restorations and produced custom electronic designs for a number of major artists including Jean-Michel Jarre, Dani is also known for fully restoring two out of the world's four remaining 1979 Crumar GDS and partially restoring 1938 Novachord 346 (the only known operational Novachord in the UK) to playable order along with developing and producing the new Elfin family of 8-bit polysynths and the popular MIDI Front Panel Animator (FPA), Filter Defeat Module (FDM) and XD-280 Drive Emulator upgrades for the AKAI S612 sampler.

FUTURISK was a pioneering electro-punk group that recorded and performed in the pre-midi era of the early '80's. They had two vinyl releases that sold out, a legendary live show and some videos, but for a number of reasons by 1984 Futurisk was history. Eventually the main core of Futurisk would be the Kolosine/Hess/Howard line up, but in '79 when a teenage Jeremy Kolosine won studio time &amp; money in a competition with his drum-machine triggered guitar-synth act called 'Clark Humphrey &amp; Futurisk', he decided to form a band around the name to record a more punk release "The Sound of Futurism 1980/Army Now". It was an ambivalent anti-war anthem, with Jack Howard on drums, Frank Lardino on synth and Kolosine on vocals and guitar synth. In '81,Kolosine, who had gotten absorbed in a new synth/sequencer replaced Lardino withsynthesist/recordist Richard Hess who had a myriad collection of Moogs, Oberheims and KATs,etc. and the line up for the "Player Piano EP" was cast. The EP, like the live show, was a strange blend of punk/minimalist/disco influenced electro pop, with drum-machine triggered synths and often frantic real drums all led by Kolosine's schizophrenic Bowie/Ferry/Foxx adulations (and about 20 seconds of punk-funk guitar). It was recorded by Rich and the band in the rooms of Ron K's house.The drum sound, gotten in a bathroom, rocks, even today. Reportedly, Futurisk may have been the 1st synth-punk band in the American South...or something, and 1981's track 'Push Me Pull You (pt. 2)' was an early pre-'Rockit' excursion into electro-funk.
In 2003 LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy gave a complimentary wink to Futurisk by using the track on the delightful Colette # 5 DFA Comp CD. 
In 2007 an unreleased 1982 version of the track "Meteoright" was included on Minimal Wave's "Found Tapes" vinyl LP.
In 2010 Minimal Wave Records released  the long awaited 30th anniversary Futurisk retrospective "Player Piano LP", 
and in 2011, Futurisk's " Lonely Streets Remixes" , with remixed tracks by Chris Carter (Throbbing Gristle,Chris & Cosey), Tom Furse (The Horrors), Prince Language (DFA, Editions Disco) and Complexxion was released on Minimal Wave / Cititrax Records.
