It's a hot summer on Amity Island, a small community whose main business is its beaches. When new Sheriff Martin Brody discovers the remains of a shark attack victim, his first inclination is to close the beaches to swimmers. This doesn't sit well with Mayor Larry Vaughn and several of the local businessmen. Brody backs down to his regret as that weekend a young boy is killed by the predator. The dead boy's mother puts out a bounty on the shark and Amity is soon swamped with amateur hunters and fisherman hoping to cash in on the reward. A local fisherman with much experience hunting sharks, Quint, offers to hunt down the creature for a hefty fee. Soon Quint, Brody and Matt Hooper from the Oceanographic Institute are at sea hunting the Great White shark. As Brody succinctly surmises after their first encounter with the creature, they're going to need a bigger boat.

Jaws is a 1975 American thriller film directed by Steven Spielberg, based on the 1974 novel by Peter Benchley. It stars Roy Scheider as police chief Martin Brody, who, with the help of a marine biologist (Richard Dreyfuss) and a professional shark hunter (Robert Shaw), hunts a man-eating great white shark that attacks beachgoers at a summer resort town. Murray Hamilton plays the mayor, and Lorraine Gary portrays Brody's wife. The screenplay is credited to Benchley, who wrote the first drafts, and actor-writer Carl Gottlieb, who rewrote the script during principal photography.

Shot mostly on location at Martha's Vineyard in Massachusetts, Jaws was the first major motion picture to be shot on the ocean and consequently had a troubled production, going over budget and schedule. As the art department's mechanical sharks often malfunctioned, Spielberg decided mostly to suggest the shark's presence, employing an ominous and minimalist theme created by composer John Williams to indicate its impending appearances. Spielberg and others have compared this suggestive approach to that of director Alfred Hitchcock. Universal Pictures' release of the film to over 450 screens was an exceptionally wide release for a major studio picture at the time, and it was accompanied by an extensive marketing campaign that heavily emphasized television spots and tie-in merchandise.

Regarded as a watershed moment in motion picture history, Jaws was the prototypical summer blockbuster, and won several awards for its music and editing. It was the highest-grossing film of all time until the release of Star Wars two years later; both films were pivotal in establishing the modern Hollywood business model, which pursues high box-office returns from action and adventure films with simple high-concept premises, released during the summer in thousands of theaters and advertised heavily. Jaws was followed by three sequels (none of which involved Spielberg or Benchley) and many imitative thrillers, and in 2001, the Library of Congress selected it for preservation in the United States National Film Registry.

Jimmy and Tom are back from another summer hiatus (next few weeks will be rough) but we reviewed a very recent movie to the Netflix catalog, a movie heralded as the "next Jaws.'

Bad news. This movie sucks.

If there is one thing CheapShow loves without exception, it’s Tomy toys from yesteryear! We’ve covered much of their back catalogue in the past, but this week we have three items that are very beloved. Paul and Eli get to tinker with kitties in a Water Wonderland game, battle sharks with the Tomytronic 3D “Shark Attack” toy and take on the challenge of Screwball Scramble: Level 2! How will Tomy fare? Only CheapShow has the answers! Also on the show, we wet our whistles with three soft drinks, two of which will probably be godawful, and investigate “milky straws” that are filled with candy flavoured beads. Will they make the milk better or worse? We sample two new “Candy Cans” but it’s almost a foregone conclusion that the cheap chaps will not take kindly to them. Maybe Eli’s new Red Bull (sigh) will save the day? If not, don’t worry, as Eli is obsessed with making crude jokes involving genitals and types of fish. As you can expect, Paul isn’t too impressed, but despite suffering from food poisoning whilst recording, he’s going to have to craft a gag to appease Eli before the day is over. Oh Joy!

Maureen "Mo" Longo (b. 1985) received a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Therapy from the University of Dayton, where she was a three-time Honors Recital finalist and winner of the Concerto Aria Competition. Mo received a Master of Music degree in Percussion Performance from Wright State University, where she was selected for the Honors Recital and earned the 1st place scholarship for her solo marimba performance.



Currently traveling full-time, Mo is a freelance musician and educator. She composes and arranges music for marching band percussion, competitive indoor percussion, classical solo & ensemble percussion, and concert band. Mo's first concert band piece, Remedy, was the winner of the 2025 Silver Melted Into Sound composition competition. In addition to writing music, Mo teaches percussion camps and clinics around the country.



Preceding full-time travel, Mo was the Percussion Director at Beavercreek City Schools and an Adjunct Professor at the University of Dayton. Prior to that, she worked as a board certified Music Therapist with Seasons Hospice & Palliative Care. Since 2007, Mo has been on the instructional staff with numerous scholastic and independent marching ensembles throughout Ohio and Illinois.



Mo has toured the United States and Europe with DCI and WGI as a member of the Glassmen Drum & Bugle Corps and Matrix Performing Arts, and has performed at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention and the Ohio Music Educators Conference.



Mo is a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, and she proudly endorses Innovative Percussion products.

Hi. Came here from the Ethereal Plane of Epicness. I love listening to Drum and bass and other EDM genres. Have a listen to mine. I'm sure some of them will vibe. ☮

I like to create Atmospheric Drum and Bass, Breakbeat and Jungle, but I have also experimented with Psy-rock, Lo-fi Hip hop and Psy-Trance. I wish to experiment with more EDM genres soon.
