2510_ふたつぶの豆（2025/10/22公開）

Blair had been planning to go to the dunes for a few days. 

Yet, the threat of stormy weather was enough for anyone to postpone a visit. 

The dunes weren’t far from the surrounding townships. 

With wild rolling shapes, a mix of coastal grasses and cattails, they could confuse anyone who stepped off the marked paths. 

The harsh weather was gone now, Blair made their way to the dunes with a pack, beach chair and flashlight in hand. 

It wasn’t their plan to watch the sunset on the water, but rather relax among the dunes halfway between the surf and the road.

Close enough to hear the waves and wind sing in a similar pitch with a certain mystical quality. 

Blair munched on sunflower seeds and drank tea as they sketched in a notebook for a few hours. 

The daylight faded and Blair realized it was a good moment to pack up and head out. 

But which way was out again? 

The dunes in each direction had all started to look the same. 

Then the sound of voices could be heard over that of the wind and waves; it got closer until Blair saw a change in the landscape at last. 

Seven people dressed unassumingly like backpackers were carrying a box as they walked within sight. 

They didn’t see Blair because another figure was waiting for them on the horizon that had just come into view from the opposite direction, a cloaked figure. 

The group stopped and put down the box, which Blair could now see was a coffin. 

Then the cloaked figure raised their hand as if grasping for the contents of the coffin from a distance. 

There was a loud “crack” as the lid of the coffin popped off. 

A soggy looking hand snatched one of the backpackers and pulled them into the open coffin. 

The victim didn’t scream but the others did as they ran; scattering in every direction. 

The cloaked figure began to speak to the creature in the coffin. 

Blair was already departing from where they had been sitting as they overheard the villainous joy. 

“Feed on them, ancient one. Oh, lancer of death. Oh, patron of forsaken souls. Allow me the honor of being the first in a thousand years to offer themself into your service.” 

So, went on the voice of the cloaked figure as Blair creeped away as silently as possible. 

Blair’s mind had been so in tune to sounds because of listening quietly earlier, that they felt each violent assault of panicked breathing out of view and then a “crunch.” 

After the seventh such crunch, Blair was already lying at the bottom of a depression in the dunes. 

They realized they had gone the wrong way, and the waves were in front of them, but maybe that didn’t seem to matter. 

Blair was lying on their back, trying to hide beneath their folded chair, as they saw the cloaked figure float into view above in the moonlight. 

“Watch me, master,” the cloaked figure boasted, “ my skill in vampirism is finally tested,” and then dove straight for Blair. 

Bracing themself, Blair pulled their folding chair partially open, legs up. 

The vampire got tangled in the descent, their neck square to the ‘warning pinch’ sticker. 

Blair had rolled around and was on top in an instant. 

The folding chair snapped shut and the vampire burst into cinders and ash. 

Blair readied themself for an attack from the vampire master too. 

But no attack ever came. 

The end.
