In September of 2024 I got to play with @shubostar, one of those artists whose music I've been listening to and weaving into my sets for years. Such a treat! 

To offer appropriate direct support, I voyaged to explore what 'cosmic disco' (a genre that Shubostar identifies with) sounds like through the lens of Asymmetry. As it always is with music genre re-interpretations, my set sounds nothing like the classic definition of 'disco' and maybe only somewhat 'cosmic' -- but I am so thrilled with how it turned out and the crowd absolutely loved it 😊

The set begins gently and ramps up over time, traveling through midtempo, indie dance, bouncy house, and other sonic flavors I'll pass on trying to put into words (--but send me your words!!). It's also filled with warm guitar sounds I adore 🎸
The energy is upbeat and dynamic, and I've been enjoying listening to it when I need to focus (e.g. working or driving) or to bring warm groovy ambiance into a space (e.g. hosting friends) ✨

Love love love to find inspiration in different corners of the music world and to be influenced by the artists I admire.

Mayan Warrior is the result of a collaborative project that has united artists, craftsmen, photographers, designers, technologists, architects and musicians from Mexico City and Northern California. 

The project’s original intent was to present to the world the incredible ascent of contemporary Mexican electronic music while paying respect to the deep and ancient sources from which that visual and auditory culture had grown.


Both light and sound are curated by some of the world’s most prominent artists to transport participants to the very origins of the culture – and to a new understanding of contemporary electronic expression.

AND YES: Mayan Warrior is driven from Mexico City to the playa – and back – each year. It's a labor of love and we're glad so many people enjoy it.

Asymmetry is a Ukrainian artist based in San Francisco. She fuses midtempo, indie dance, slow house, and dark downtempo to tell haunting, expansive stories. 
Equal parts elegant, groovy, and eclectic, Asymmetry’s sets take you on hypnotic journeys while making your body move with the flow.

Growing up she listened to UK 90’s trip hop, IDM, deep house, and a fair amount of multicultural folk music, which fostered her love of sound that is textured, emotional, and has an interesting narrative. More than anything, Asymmetry sees music as a soundtrack to life and enjoys losing herself to dancing.
