We take a trip to London to see Avatar: The Way of Water again, this time on the biggest screen in the country at the BFI IMAX, in high frame rate and 3D. We discuss the difference in experience between seeing it here and at the IMAX Digital cinema at Cineworld Broad Street, where we saw it previously. Mike questions why the film switches between 24fps and 48fps, rather than sticking with the high frame rate throughout - director James Cameron describes how HFR assists in making 3D imagery less difficult to resolve, and implies that he limits its use to avoid the so-called "soap opera effect" that made the Hobbit films and Gemini Man look so cheap, but Mike doesn't buy that it's necessary to keep returning to 24fps, and thinks Cameron's a big scaredy-cat. José, on the other hand, can't seem to tell the difference between the frame rates at all.

We also discuss what a second viewing of the film brings into focus that we hadn't put our finger on before, Mike comparing it to the nature documentaries that IMAX have produced for years, and José implores the film community to drop its snootiness and embrace the opportunity to see such a marvellous spectacle while it's still in cinemas. It's really special.

Holly Ringland spoke to Lindsay McDougall about turning her novel into a tv series, and what it's like seeing these screen legends breathing life into her creations.

De zeventiende aflevering van het derde seizoen van Cinepraatjes, de podcast van Cinemaatjes. Leon Jackson van Moviegelul met Vrienden was toevallig in de buurt en kwam langs voor een kopje koffie, niet wetende dat we hem gewoon bij ons aan tafel zouden schuiven om dus onvoorbereid mee te doen aan de podcast. Uiteraard is er ook weer een nieuw sonnet van Marino van Liempt, waarvan William 100% zeker wist dat hij het goed heeft geraden. Leon heeft ‘The Flash’ gekeken en dat blijkt zelfs de rode draad van deze podcast te worden. JP sluit aan met een andere DC-film namelijk ‘Blue Beetle’ en William keek na een lange tijd weer de SciFi klassieker ‘Alien’. We trokken weer een VHS uit de kast, namelijk de slasher ‘Dog Island’, die ook wel bekend staat als ‘Humongous’, maar we flitsen toch weer terug naar ‘The Flash’ en ‘Blue Beetle’. In de Special bespreken we moderne zwart-wit films, maar ook daarin flitsen we weer terug naar ‘Wat heb je nou in godsnaam weer gezien?’, want William heeft ook nog ‘Beau is Afraid’ gekeken en JP heeft ook ‘Vampier Hookers’ gezien, maar gelukkig flitsen we ook weer terug naar de Special om uiteindelijk onze Top 10 van moderne zwart-wit films te noemen. Uiteraard beantwoorden we ook weer vragen van luisteraars over o.a. films die met een VHS-groezel beter zijn dan met een hoge kwaliteit, monsters of villains die we graag tegenover elkaar zien, de top 250 iMDB lijst, de beste plottwist in de filmgeschiedenis en horror sterfgevallen die een speciaal plekje in ons hart hebben.
