60 years ago, Rachel Carson's book, "Silent Spring," was released. It created a firestorm of controversy that ultimately led to the formation of the modern environmental movement, and helped push Richard Nixon--yes, THAT Richard Nixon--to create the Environmental Protection Agency, the Clean Water Act, and the Noise Abatement Act. It's time to revisit Ms. Carson's work. Happy 60th anniversary, Silent Spring.

'A Great Day to Fly a Kite' brings horns straight from miles high, happily intertwining with a ruthless groove, pushing the atmosphere and delivering a quirky impact on the dance floor. 'Should've brought an Umbrella' graciously closes the EP with a touching - and at the same time organic sound.

"Silent Spring" har med rette skrevet seg inn i litteraturhistorien som en av de bøkene som har påvirket vår felles forståelse av hvordan vi som mennesker påvirker naturen rundt oss. Det er en bok som handler om de utilsiktede konsekvensene av vår bruk av ugress- og innsektsmiddel. "Silent Spring" ble utgitt i 1962 og gjorde Carson til en av de ledende personene innen miljøvern. Boka skapte også en økt bevissthet rundt forholdet mellom økt matproduksjon og de grepene som tas for å maksimere profitt. Konsekvensene av bruken av ulike ugress- og innsektsmiddel er fortsatt svært aktuelt i dag. Det registreres i ulike artstap, som blant annet bier. 

26 august inviterer Litteratur på Blå til samtalen om Rachel Carson og hennes betydningsfulle verk.

Hver tirsdag klokken 19 inviterer vi til debatter, samtaler og intervjuer på Blå ved Akerselva i Oslo.
