Growing up between the UK, Amsterdam and Adelaide gave me a weirdly perfect blend of influence, and a passion for anything old skool. The 90s sound has been in my ears since I was a kid, as my parents raised me on Jungle, Drum and Bass and rave energy.

My first proper set was in September 2024 at Ancient World, where I got thrown into Adelaide’s underground scene with the DEEPTANK crew. We filled the floor from open till close, and that night pretty much lit the fuse. Big love to Skorpion King and Mr JohnJohn for putting me on and getting the ball rolling.

After a while in the scene, and meeting some of the coolest people, I applied for my first set at Ignition. Although I didn’t make the line-up, Grant got me up on the decks with Counterpart at sun-up and we partied on till noon, where I met St3ph and S:Mack in their typical fashion, if you know you know. 🤣

Not long after, Counterpart invited me to play one of his park parties, tOASt. It was a midday opener, but there were still a few leftovers from the Christmas party on the night before who stayed up to support me. 😅

After chatting with Gunda G, he offered me a set on the BassBin 92.7. I went full old skool Jungle and DnB, and it’s still a mix I go back and listen to now.

Once Tinkerb9l tuned in, she gave me my first prime time slot for C.L.U.B SKATE under the iconic Ovingham train station. I kept the same flavours as the BassBin mix and thankfully it landed the way I hoped.

Straight after that, Amorositie asked me to play a Wicked Liquid show at Ancient World alongside Lottie B. I switched it up and played newer DnB for the first time, which forced me into different mixing styles because of how short the tunes are these days (unfortunately). 

A few weeks later, Tinkerb9l brought me onto Rollerz 92.7—the longest running DnB show in Australia. I pushed some of the newer sounds I’ve been getting into and it got a good response, which gave me a bit more confidence with that direction.

Then KRITA hit me up for his TNA + FRIENDS lineup featuring Azza x Grima, Nu:Elementz, Benny L, Devilman, Inja, Harry Shotta and Jamezy. I haven’t played this one yet, so I’ll pick the story back up once I’ve done it 🤣👌

Mi historia con la música empieza en el año 2000, cuando tenía 15 años y lo único que necesitaba para ser feliz era un plato, un vinilo, y unas ganas inmensas de hacer vibrar a los míos. No había redes, no había postureo, no había métricas ni algoritmos. Había noches, colegas, garajes, luces bajas y el bajo retumbando en el pecho. Así fue mi forma de entrar en la música: por amor puro y sin ataduras.

Estuve pinchando hasta 2004, siempre en fiestas privadas, en momentos únicos, sin más pretensión que compartir lo que sentía cada vez que una aguja tocaba el surco. Nunca lo hice por fama ni por dinero. Lo hacía porque el breakbeat me elegía cada vez que sonaba. Porque ahí, entre bombo y caja, me encontraba a mí mismo.

Pasaron los años. Llegó la vida adulta, el trabajo, la rutina. Guardé los vinilos, pero nunca apagué el fuego.

En 2020, en plena pandemia, con el mundo en pausa, volví a escuchar ese eco dentro. El cuerpo me pedía música. Me planteé volver a mezclar. Pero claro, el vinilo ya no era tan accesible. El coste, el espacio, los equipos... todo era distinto. Probé con controladoras eléctricas. Fácil, rápido, funcional. Pero algo no encajaba. Me faltaba alma. Me faltaba aguja. Me faltaba error. Me faltaba vinilo.

Y así, en 2023, decidí regresar. Pero no a medias. Me compré unos Pioneer DJ, recuperé mi colección antigua y empecé de nuevo como debe hacerse: desde abajo, con humildad, pero con hambre. Volví a patear mercadillos, a buscar joyas, a entrenar el oído y las manos. Volví a sentir el vértigo del beat cuando entra justo en el momento perfecto.

Sé que es más caro. Que es más difícil. Que el camino analógico es más lento.
Pero también sé que es más real. Y yo vengo de ahí. Yo soy eso.
Soy JUANSIRBETDJ.
Y si algo tengo claro, es que el breakbeat se lleva dentro… y se pincha con el alma.

About MIXMASTERS (Master J, Kodi Starr and King Terra)
The UK base music crew influenced by their Jamaican and UK roots. Dj Master J, Kodi Starr and Dj King Terra campaign ranges from radio shows, festivals, night clubs, organising events for all ages, mix CDs, writing and music production with a slew of dub plates to back them up.

Whilst most Djs/ crews prefers a Dj booth, for the MIXMASTERS there is no place like home and their home is the stage, the bigger the better for a whole other level of musical entertainment. 

Music production is having been and is becoming a prominent part of their success and will be showcased a lot more. Kodi Starr has secured two number one spots in the BBC 1Extra dancehall charts with popular Dancehall artist Stylo G and presently working with several major labels and artists in the UK. Both Kodi Starr and Master J tours with Stylo G has his Dj and has assisted in the artist elevated performances. Master J is also a ghost writer for several UK artists and is good at predicting hits. Dj Terra held one of the biggest unsigned talent cyphers and has a good ear for new artists.

About DJ Master J
Dj Master J is MIXMASTERS main Dj and master of ceremony, quick on the mic and ready with the hot tracks that will get any show going anywhere.

Born and raised in Kingston Jamaica and later took up residency in the United Kingdom as a teenager. With strong Jamaican musical interest and a passion for global music, he was easily able to take his place in London as one of their household Djs on the Dancehall, Reggae, Soca, RnB and Hip-hop scene.

About Kodi Starr
Kodi Starr is MIXMASTERS official producer, sound engineer, host and Dj. With an ear for the right tracks and future hits. 

Kodi Starr born of Spanish Town, Jamaica.  Music had been influential in Kodi’s life from a very young age, because his father (Poison Chang), who was a recording artist during the 90s, with hits like “Press Up” that Made it to the J.A and UK Charts. By the age of 10 he already had experience recording vocals in the studio to being on stage performing with his dad and now Stylo G and other international artists. 

About DJ King Terra
Dj King Terra is MIXMASTERS official DJ from London, UK, He is as sharp on the desks as he is with selecting the right tracks for any party crowd. 

Born and raised in north London, he has been and grown up around some of the strongest Djs and musical talents of the city. He soon realised at a young age attending secondary school that he also had a talent for making people feel good through music. He was always picked as the Dj for talent shows, family functions and now top events arenas around the world.
