I spent twenty years in mainland France. So you could say I have eclectic musical tastes. I played piano and guitar, but music theory always put me off, so I became a DJ until 2000. Today, I've lived on Réunion Island for over thirty years, and my appreciation for local music has only grown stronger. Sega, maloya, and other related genres are part of my heritage. I've never stopped writing lyrics that come to me, inspired by places and experiences. Until now, I'd never taken the time to set them to music. I started performing slam poetry and rap in 2023 out of passion, and I have several projects in the works that I'll share as soon as they're available. As a slam poet, I blend poetry, introspection, and melancholy with a touch of hope. Wounded but determined, I explore through my lyrics inner struggles, past traumas, and the quest for self-discovery. Each song is an intimate confession, an unwritten letter addressed to those who are going through similar trials. In 2024, Claire joined me, and we formed "Malik & Friends." Our music is inspired by harsh realities, but also by the power of resilience. It's a mix of Franco-Maghrebi influences, slam poetry, rap, and vocal harmonies between me, Claire, and our friends.
