Disco Lines - Live @ Boxpac SLC 2025

Recently I was listening to an artist's recording of their set at Stereo in Montreal and he played a track that I hadn't heard since I used it in a mix I had made in 2012. Having experienced Stereo for myself and having the mental image of that unique space collide with a memory so long ago made me want to re-listen to this mix. The only reason why it wasn't already hosted here is because at the time I couldn't reasonably afford the $15 a month it'd cost to keep it hosted 😭

A year previous to making the mix, I had first discovered Guy J and his expression and mixing method completely rocked my understanding of music to its core. I would listen to his mixes over and over, studying them in my mind so that I could decipher how in the world he was creating such a streamlined experience with so much texture. I had never heard anything like it.

I spent a solid 4-5 months working on this mix. I'm talking night after night after night working out the details of the story, but more importantly developing the foundation of my own mixing method and expression that carries me to this day. If I were a painter, this is where I truly learned to paint.

My hope is always to create a mix that will be able to survive the ebbs and flows of taste and time, and re-listening to it just now confirms I tapped into something special. I can't say all this without acknowledging Karson's help in both creating visuals for the project, but also in suggesting many track ideas at critical points as we were exploring this musical world together.

Gaspar Noe's film "Enter The Void" was the main inspiration for this and I infused references to it all throughout. God I love that film.
