This marks a rare Shuj Roswell DJ solo set, designed as a narrative journey through love… 

The arc of the night mirrors the emotional cycles we all recognize: the hopeful search, the spark of connection, the blissful highs of infatuation, the slow unraveling and the bittersweet clarity that comes after loss. I carefully chose edits and mashups that blur eras and genres of classic soul, hip-hop, jam, electro, cinematic themes and iconic love songs re imagined through the lens of the Pretty Lights universe 

Moments like “Lookin For Love (But Not So Sure)” with Men At Works sample of Overkill's "At least there's Pretty Lights," or Sade’s “No Ordinary Love” that wove its way into the live Pretty Lights recording of Double Love, accompanied by live modular synth, are meant to feel intimate and familiar, yet transformed, like memories softened by time, echoing back with new meaning. Tracks such as “Moreland Ave Blues” and “Goodbye, Baby” lean into nostalgia and reflection

The set closes with a sense of surrender and catharsis, featuring my remix of 'Rocket Man,' which lifts the listener into something hopeful, expansive, and human reminding the audience once again that, "at least there's Pretty Lights." Not a sad ending, but an honest one

This is a love letter set to connection, to loss, to growth and to a shared emotional language

Shuj Roswell is the latest musical creation of Denver's own, Mark A. Cooley. Releasing his debut album on Michal Menert's Super Best Records label in 2015, he carefully curates vinyl samples of 60's and 70's funk and soul as a foundation for his production. Fusing traditional sample based hip-hop techniques with warm analog synthesis and hard hitting beats, he sets the table for a sound within the Electro Soul movement he calls, Funk-tron-a-delic.

When playing out, Shuj Roswell Live takes the musical experience to the next level by bringing live instrumentation into the mix. Mark plays guitar and is accompanied on stage by drummer and good friend, Eric Imbrosciano. Eric comes from a hip-hop, funk, and jazz background originating from his early years gigging in and around the New York music scene. He injects a soulful vibe into the Shuj Roswell live sound from laid back hip-hop grooves to drum & bass breaks. Eric also performs in the jazz-fusion quartet, Space Orphan. You might have run into him as he hosts several open jams around the Denver area

In addition to his drummer Eric, Shuj Roswell Live consists of emcee, J. Shook, who’s recorded vocals on several Shuj Roswell tracks and a rotating who’s who on saxophone, trumpet and trombone. Mark recorded with and sampled his live band in the studio on the EP, Shuttlecock
