One thing that I'm keenly aware of, as a music producer who used to be a nightclub dj, is that a lot of the Interbay tracks, even those designed as "dance" tracks, are still Interbay-enough to confuse some dj's and some dancefloors.  My everpresent need for novelty can strip away the hypnotic pull of a groove that never ends.  No matter the dance music genre, the sense of being able to lose yourself as the music goes on and on is usually present in most dance songs (maybe not dubstep.)  I tend to switch things up, too much and too often, for the types that close their eyes on the dancefloor and just letting the groove to take them somewhere.  

It's a fair cop.  But this might be the exception that proves the rule.  Without losing its inherent and intrinsic Interbayness, "Fathoms" manages to also exude that "we just turned the machines on and let them run" vibe that most people expect from their dance tracks.  

This is a song about deep house while not exactly being a deep house song.  (It is also a potentially happy ending version of the story of rich people who board a submersible that claims to be able to take them down deep enough to see the wreck of the Titanic...only to blink out of existence when the ship proves to be unworthy.)  Even if the BPM of "Fathoms" is well within the range you could expect from deep house, there's also enough synth arpeggiation to throw the trance hat into the ring.  (Can you have deep trance?  Probably...I have probably missed quite a few genre identifications since retiring from dj'ing and record store managing 21 years ago.  And yes, you're right.  I'm an old.)  

This might be my purest dance track yet, whatever the genre you feel most comfortable putting it in.  I hope you like it as much as I do.
