What a story if you are a true deep house fan, especially a deep house fan from the South Of Jozi, we have bred some of the elite legends in the scene, this guy right here I tribute this mix to is one of them. We even shared the same area code. We had the same friends and yet we both never knew we existed, he even worked with a good mate of mine and a legend among legends named Andy O back in late 90s early 2000s. This album cover will ring bells for the man of the hour especially a place called Edgars Red Square. Fast forward to 2023. We talking in our group chat, all us friends scattered across the globe we still have a group chat with the gents from school days and myself and Andy drive the group mad with our tracks when we sending haha. Anyway I had a day where i went down the rabbit hole, so much so that I almost 13 hours of my life ticked away and never even realised it. Saw rays of sun coming through the shutters, I was like wait a minute I started early evening how is there sun. Anyway back to finishing the story and the reason for this mix and tribute so you can listen to the mix or listen and read. I come across some very nice deep stuff I have not heard in a while and my first love, deep house. I start sending to the group chat and say, Andy listen to this fucking producer I found, he writes back. Ag ja thats a good mate of mine, we worked together at The Glen, I said no fucking ways you joking, talk kak, He pulls screen grabs from chats etc. Back when TimADeep was just making for himself or him and Andy were talking music etc. So i am here loving this new find TimADeep whos been making beats way back Andy said. I was very close and near with the scene. Remember now we are all 80s Kids and we grew up pre/ post apartheid, as a kid you do not care or give a fuck, it is the influence and everything around you that influences. We use to go into town to a place on Pimm Street, those who know, Carfax was a deep house Meca, what a time, wow, there was no colour there, just good people, good vibes & the love for house, never a fight, always love, good souls coming together over good music. It was beautiful, special time. I will forever hold it dear to my heart. There was 115, All Good Parties, From Cape Town With Love etc. Back to finding TimADeep, I keep listening to his music, I was 8 tracks in, each track was fire. I said na, fuck this if it goes 10 for 10 tracks b2b I will do a tribute mix. So this is how this mix was born. 1 take, in the moment like all my mixes, no preplan no practice.This is A tribute to a man who was close but never known and nobody had a clue, now is known & close to our musical hearts, he has no idea this mix is happening, send the homie so he can maybe bless with a comment, a very talented soul & humble and down to earth, sweet guy as Andy said. I hope you read this big boss zonke. Thank you for releasing your passion, deep babies into the universe, you are one talented indoda, even though I found you so late, I am so happy I did on the other side of the world. Music has no boundaries, I am so happy to see that South Africa, all our original sounds being shared around the globe now more than ever before, the world is our stage and we deserve all of it, we been in the shadows too long, the talent in our Country & the genres we have, one of a kind. Stories & the connections are so important, a massive impact that sometimes you have no idea until later on in life. Marcus Watkins is an old school Midwest DJ, producer and founder/manager of former record label Random Access Recordings. Marcus was born and raised on the southside of Chicago and started DJing at the early tender age of 13. From small scale events to large outdoor festivals, Marcus has gotten his fair share of notoriety throughout North America and Europe in the late 1990’s and early 2000s. This includes international tours in Canada, England, Scotland, and an appearance in Greece. He has performed & shared the stage with House Music and Techno legends from around the globe. 

Due to family obligations and a disgust of what the underground electronic dance music scene had become at the time, he decided to retire. 

After a long hiatus, Marcus has returned to contribute music to the world and to play his part in preserving the legacy of Black underground soulful dance music. Marcus does monthly DJ Mix podcast (Gruv Therapy Session), which is sponsored by the South African outfit, DK’s Sound Entertainment. He also has been blessed to release music for Jay Hill’s powerhouse record label, People of the Light Records (POTL) as well releasing exclusive material independently.

DJ Joune was born In a musical family. He has been spinning in one form or another since the age of 15 years old. He started playing at various house parties and after made it to big clubs in his own town. After earning his programming skills over the years at countless school dances, house parties, and clubs, being inspired by other great Dj’s. With the support of families and friends, he became one of his town Hottest DJs. He moved to the Utah and  his tenacity caught the eyes and ears of many club promoters. With hard work and a lot of dedication he made it to the Big Clubs in Utah and also was highly demanded in other states, such as Florida, Virginia, Idaho, Boston, New York city and Internationally in  Montreal Canada, Dominican republic. Currently in Utah DJ Joune has been the DJ for club Elevate, The Hotel, Circle Lounge, Club One Weber State University and more. He also has done other types of events such as wedding, corporate events, graduation events, grand opening events. 

DJ Joune: A Global Sound Architect

DJ Joune is an internationally acclaimed open-format DJ and the official in-house DJ for the Utah Jazz NBA team. Featured on Billboard.com, he’s opened for iconic acts like Bad Bunny’s Most Wanted Tour, Journey, and Toto. In 2023, DJ Joune performed and curated events for the NBA All-Star games, showcasing his talent for curating experiences ranging from sports events to fashion shows, private parties, festivals and weddings.

Primarily based in Salt Lake City and New York City, DJ Joune has made his mark in various corners of the world. His performances have spanned France, Greece, Canada, Senegal, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, and beyond. Recently, he has expanded his global footprint with sets in countries such as Mexico, Colombia, and Greece. He’s also had the honor of opening for Nelly and sharing the stage with Shaboozey, bringing an unmatched vibe to audiences around the globe.

In addition to his worldwide performances, DJ Joune has worked with renowned clients such as the Utah Jazz, Sundance Film Festival, Range Rover, and the NHL. His mixes can be found on YouTube, capturing the energy and essence that make him a standout on the international DJ scene
