C’est un genre de cinéma profondément ancré dans la littérature et les mythes fondateurs de l’Amérique, celle du sud profond et ses paysages iconiques comme les Bayous de la Louisiane. Un cinéma comme on l’aime dans cette émission car profondément lié à une géographie particulière, celle de territoires qui jadis formaient les états confédérés pendant la guerre de sécession. Un territoire vaste allant du Texas à la Virginie, l’état originel, et marqué par l’histoire et ses traumatismes, ses fantômes. Car comme dans le roman et le cinéma gothique auxquels il emprunte une partie de son nom, il est bien question dans ce genre de fantômes, de souvenirs, de secrets enfouis, souvent des secrets de famille, et puis de ruines, des restes d’un passé plus ou moins ancien et qui semblait bien plus glorieux...

Dans cet épisode de "La dernière piste" que je republie le soir d'Halloween et en pleine période d'élection présidentielle Américaine, il est donc question de "Southern Gothic", un genre typiquement Etats-Unien, mais aussi d’un genre cousin, les "Redneck movies", en compagnie de Maxime Lachaud, éminent journaliste, essayiste, érudit et cinéphile qui est notamment l’un des programmateurs du Fifigrot à Toulouse, auteur d'un ouvrage intitulé "Redneck Movies : ruralité et dégénérescence dans le cinéma américain" aux éd. Rouge profond et réalisateur avec Steve Balestreri d'un fascinant documentaire, "Texas Trip : A Carnival of Ghosts".

« La dernière piste » s'intéresse au cinéma et à la musique principalement mais pas exclusivement, et se présente comme le carnet de bord d’un voyageur curieux, parti sur les pistes d’œuvres et d’artistes du passé, du présent et du futur…
