Excerpts of three unnamed live improvisations by EMG Lux Ohr Feat. Ashen Simian. Mixed and recorded live by Pertti Grönholm and Ami Hassinen. Recorded at the Old Shortwave Station in Pori, Finland in September 8, 2023 from a two-hour performance at Live Ambient Festival organized by Jesaja von Plugi et al.  

All the tracks in this compilation were improvised live by Pertti Grönholm, Ismo Virta and Ami Hassinen. The last excerpt contains a synth sequence composed and pre-recorded by Pertti Grönholm. Arranged by EMG Lux Ohr and Ashen Simian.

Elektronische Musik für kosmische Ohren - Electronic music for cosmic ears 

While E-Musikgruppe Lux Ohr's quest for cosmic experiences is proudly inspired by German Kosmische Musik of the 1970s, the band also boldly pursues to probe frontiers that have remained unchallenged for four decades. The music of E-Musikgruppe Lux Ohr is a journey into organic atmospheres, warm analogue timbres and melodic sequences that bring the sound of the pioneers into the 21st century.

E-Musikgruppe Lux Ohr has performed in various venues ranging from rock clubs to art museums, libraries and movie theaters. All music of E-Musikgruppe Lux Ohr is made to be played live and also many of the album tracks have evolved in live performances and jam sessions. 

The three space cadets of E-Musikgruppe Lux Ohr are: Pertti Grönholm, synthesizers, sequencers and samplers; Kimi Kärki, guitar, e-bow and effects; Ismo Virta, Memotron, guitar and effects. Jaakko Penttinen (synthesizers and sequencers) was a band member from 2008 to 2017. All current and former musicians have been active in various underground music scenes for a long time.

John Rose is a composer working out of Lexington, Kentucky. John has worked for many years doing live radio, outdoor festivals, art openings and planetarium performances. John has been a pioneer of electronic music in Kentucky since the 1970s. He continues to work on solo recordings, and is a sound tech and stage hand. He recently started recording and producing music for other people. John also loves to teach wilderness survival and awareness and has been doing so at camps and workshops around Kentucky and Tennessee.

John Rose’s music is created primarily from his own experiences, what he calls “life’s soundtracks”. He utilizes elements from his diverse musical background, which includes early music (especially the Medieval and pre-Renaissance era), Baroque (owing to his direct musical lineage to J.S. Bach through oral teaching tradition), Middle Eastern Music, Gregorian chant, traditional Celtic and Appalachian music, and experimental electronic music.

Music and musicians who are of interest to John Rose are J.S. Bach, Arvo Part, Tangerine Dream, Dead Can Dance, Gregorian chant, Cantigas de Santa Maria, Alan Stivell, Morton Subotonic, John Jacob Niles, Debussy, and Chopin. He considers Nature and Silence to be the foundation of all music.

John’s music is timeless and pensive, interwoven with images of nature, expressive rhythms, deep space pulses, and industrial ambience. Other compositions contain intricate piano passages dancing across waves of geometric ostinatos.

“Music is structured in silence and has its foundations in the rhythm of nature, out of which springs the language of humanity and reflections of the energy of life. I wish to express this to the listener through my music.”
