Another poem I wrote when I was 17.

Dark avenue, down winter's road, an empty home, no one, alone.
It creeks there when the wind blows in, there's nothing there, the light is hid.
What fills the space is untouched air, no furniture, the walls are bare.
But deep beneath where floor-boards part, though fragile, weak, a beating heart.

This cavity within my chest, it leaves me sleeping in unrest.
There's nothing that could turn my gaze, for I am dead, these bones of dread.

It listens to the children play, yet sadness pains the heart, it stays.
Closed door, bolt shut, and fastened lock, a friendly hand, a quiet knock.
For not a soul to answer him, the wind howls by and lets him in.
What is this place? The young boy cries, walks in and hears to his surprise.
A beating sound, and with great care, he looks around. "I'll check downstairs."

This cavity within my chest, it leaves me sleeping in unrest.
There's nothing that could turn my gaze, for I am dead, these bones of dread.

The thumping grows as daylight fades, reach the bottom, a thickened glaze.
This stuff is weird, my feet are wet. Where does this lead? And there he went.
Into the chamber, no speck of light, he pulled a chain, and to his fright.
Illuminated, before his eyes, he tries to run, his shoelace ties.
You shall not go! This place don't leave! This loneliness, you cannot breath.
The years I've spent, the years I've waited, with nothing here, the time I've wasted.
But now you're here, and here you'll stay, there's time for fun, there's time for play.
Work to be done, roads to be paved, my little child, my little slave.

It's my mistake, I falsely stepped, oh please release me, don't show contempt.
No need to be lonely, for this I'll atone, you just needed some warmth, and with this you'll be home.
He rose to his feet, and wiped off his mug, stepped toward the heart, gave it a hug.
Gears started turning, warmth filled the room, instead of the beating, he began hearing booms.
Red carpet rolled out, inviting upstairs, the grand dining room had well-furnished chairs.
The house had been healed, the closed up floor planks, a meal was presented, the house giving thanks.
The boy trotted home, passed the for-sale sign, he got into bed, heard soft singing chimes.
The sun rose again, but to his surprise, he looked in the window, a family inside.
