The Doc G Show October 30th 2024 (Featuring Felipe Esparza)

"I had a great time.  I had the single worst experience of my entire life."  Derek Sheen (sort of)  

I've been working on a new Interbay track for a little while now and I'm still not done with it--and that's why I posted both "Subtraction" (which y'all slept on--go back a couple of days and check that one out!) and "Dissonance Factory," which were songs that I wasn't planning to drop so close to Spooky Week.  I'd meant to put up a fun happy song after Halloween, as contrast to the dark and scary stuff in the week running up to Halloween--but I'm STILL tinkering with it...  

And, late last night, I realized that I probably wasn't going to finish that track in time to post it today, so I shut FL Studio down and considered my options.  It was late at night and I could pull another song out of the vault...but the track most likely to get picked is a heavy rock tune, and those don't seem to be all that popular when I post them here...and, obviously, I'm still smarting over how few people gave "Subtraction" a listen.  

So, I opened up a new project...with nothing really in mind to produce.  I just launched forward to see what I might come up with...and "Never Went to Disneyland" is the result of that willing to run blind into the night.  I went looking for sounds and I found a sample labeled "Travis Scott-style loop."  I tried to work with that and I was a little frustrated by it--it didn't want to play nicely with my other ideas.  

So I chopped it up and glued it back together, all glitchy.  I liked that...and to the races we go!

I'm not sure I make conscious decisions when I'm producing music late at night.  I tend to work instinctively anyway (which is why my tracks often include the kitchen sink and lurch from one thing to another like a drunk school bus driver.)  I just thought these ingredients worked.  Or, I was too tired to know better--your mileage may vary.

And then, when the clocks in the house all automatically dropped back an hour for Daylight Savings Time...I figured, with the progress I'd made and that "extra" hour, I had a decent chance to finish this brand new project in time.  

I did, eventually crash...or I sleep-produced, hard for me to say. ("I was dead at the time."--E.Izzard)  Either way, when I woke up, the track was mostly done.  

The conceit of this track is that the vocal content comes from a stand-up comedy set by Derek Sheen.  Again, I don't always know WHY I make the decisions I do.  I guess the glitchy edit of that Travis Scott-style sample sound vaguely amusement park sounding...and I must have remembered that Derek did a bit about Disneyland on one of his albums.  Sure enough, I had that album as a downloadable file (which is weird, because I'm such a physical media lover...I don't own many songs or albums as files...but that's one I did own.)

...and at one point, the bit devolves into absolute madness--the kind of madness that made me think of jazz improvisation.  So this track is a synth funk disco trap jazz wave midtempo cyber analog slice of mutant pop.  In other words, it's an Interbay track.  

Play the song!  Like the song!  Repost the song!  Share the song!  Comment on the song! 
Follow the page--this one is especially important because brand new, never heard before tracks, are dropping EVERY DAY (so far!) and you wouldn't want to miss any.  

Oh...look up Derek Sheen on all the socials.  Very funny...and if he's ever playing your town, trust me when I say that he's worth the cover and the two drink minimum.  And more!

Paolo è un affermato executive italiano nel settore dell’entertainment, con un’esperienza pluridecennale che abbraccia ambiti diversi dell’industria musicale e dello spettacolo dal vivo.

La sua carriera inizia nel 1989 nel mondo della discografia, dove ha lavorato per 21 anni presso Warner Music, ricoprendo ruoli dirigenziali di crescente responsabilità. Negli ultimi 9 anni della sua permanenza in azienda ha ricoperto il ruolo di General Manager of International, contribuendo in modo significativo allo sviluppo e alla promozione degli artisti internazionali sul mercato italiano.

Dal 2010 Paolo intraprende un percorso professionale indipendente come Talent Manager, collaborando con artisti di diversa natura e sperimentando anche nel campo delle start-up.
