"Free Funk" was so much fun to produce.   I like the "boom-tastic" quality of this track.  This is a mash-up of rhythm and style.  The horns are trombone and mute trumpet.  Keepin' it real is that awesome bassline, taking you on a journey of funkitude.

When it gets the chance to take it down a notch "into the funk zone verse" it's like swimming in a warm pool of groove.

This is a sort of homage to rap, rock-hiphop styles (but all fused together).  The mix is aggresive, and the drums are stacked to back it up.  So please do enjoy the funk of it.

http://www.psyaviah.com - This new "Future Past" EP builds on PSY'AVIAH's previous album "Introspection/Extrospection", and takes it one step further. They have tasted electro-pop, dubstep and electro-house... and then made it their own. Resulting in a blend of ambient-dubstep on "Circles", ballad like electro-pop on "Letting Go", pure EBM vs Electro-House with acid elements on "Look Beyond", and some dubstep-electro influences VS ambient textures on "Paused" and "Our Common Future".

In true PSY'AVIAH tradition, this EP is again crowned by another prestigious collaboration: with miss Kyoko Baertsoen (former HOOVERPHONIC artist & co-founder of LUNASCAPE). Her unique voice & timbre perfectly fits the very emotional song "Our Common Future".

Besides these 5 beautiful new songs, PSY'AVIAH decided to hunt for fresh and interesting new sounds in the rich Soundcloud jungle and arranged remixes by these discovered talents: styles include dancefloor material in the form of electro-house by "Dizkodude", "Amarta Project", "Dimension Flux" and electro-house versus dubstep by "Rootkit" and "Atrox Bass". There's also more easy listening dub, and ambient-esque renditions by "Cyance", "Triptone" and "Frenchfire".

Last but not least, they also added their own piano (or "Stripped" version) of "Circles" as a bonus -- "it's how 40% to 50% of our more song structured and lyrically evolved tracks start out, and we thought it was nice to portray how we went from this bare bones piano version to the version that it is now -- a little peek in the process of how a song can change when you're working on it...".

PSY'AVIAH again deliver an excellent EP revealing their ultimate talent and remind us through the lyrical themes of these new songs how we all keep struggling with past trauma:  "... time and time again making the same mistakes... I guess it's true when they say that people never change".

Psy'Aviah - Letting Go (taken from "Future Past" EP)

Duaniac/DjMe, better known as Duane Eric Abner, is a Los Angeles based photographer, songwriter and music producer.  Writing music since the age of 10, he started with the acoustic guitar given to him by his dad for his birthday.

His mother gifted him with a Magnus electric organ for his following birthday. This was after six months of accordian lessons at The  Milton Mann Studios.  The eleven year old Duane could hardly sleep at night for hearing the sounds of music in his head.

It wasn't long before he began composing and recording himself playing and singing into two separate "condenser-mike" tape recorders; then playing or singing back and forth between the two, recording each time.  It was the best way he could hear all the parts at once and learn what music could do,  beginning a serious life-long-passion within him.  He thanks BOTH of his parents for that.

From 1979 until 1984, Duaniac-DjMe was a member of a six man, one woman RnB/Pop band called, Ziphoid.  They produced all of their own demos and were an integral part of his musical training in vocals, recording, producing, mixing, and for some time, performing in Los Angeles and Las Vegas night clubs.

Through the band, Duaniac-DjMe became associated with the great and respected drummer, James Gadson, who taught him the importance of being "in the pocket" and to let the metronome become a part of his musicality.  It was a lesson well learned.

Gadson also trained Duaniac-DjMe in studio vocal technique, overdubbing, vocal harmonies and breathing excercises.  He was also very key in getting him and his band ready to perform in the local clubs in L.A. and Vegas.

The band's demos caught the attention of Earth, Wind & Fire drummer Ralph Johnson (Let's Groove Tonight), and Gloria Jones of Motown fame, and co-writer of "If I Were Your Woman".  They co-produced the band on several polished tracks. 

After a few stops and starts, the band members went their own separate ways.  Still, Duaniac-DjMe found himself continuing to write music, as well as learn about analog multi-track & digital recording techniques, playing keyboards and programming drums & percussion.

Duaniac-DjMe says...
"I love music period.  In multiple genres.  I'm an avid FILM buff and a big fan of old & new media technologies.  I have an affinity for 1920s thru the 1990s American Music styles.  Like the kind found in Hollywood movies of the times.  Many of those rhythms are from Jazz/Blues/& RnB origins".

Duaniac/DjMe enjoys revisiting classic styles and "eras of sound".  Particularly the jazzy mute trumpet of the 1930s, the classic soul 70s strings, 80s and 90s synth and bass fx and a whole gamut of drums and percussion.

These are largely instrumental tracks, and are tributes to what Duaniac/DjMe has absorbed from watching movies, listening to music (since 1965 when he was four years old) and from working with some amazing & inspiring musicians, vocalists and songwriters.

The primary objective of the band is to collaborate with as many artists as possible and create edgy experimental music.

Rob Oliver, a Hampton Roads native, received his first guitar when he was sixteen years old and hasn’t looked back since. Holed up in his bedroom for hours at a time flipping through guitar magazine lessons, he developed his musical skills playing the alternative music of the 90’s, as well as a vast array of Rock and Metal influences ranging from The Beatles to Led Zeppelin to early Metallica. In High School he was heavily shaped by the influx of alternative music before discovering such eclectic artists as Jeff Buckley and Elliott Smith. While always harboring an interest in blues music, it was twenty years after he started playing guitar that his mother gifted him with a harmonica for Christmas. This set Rob on a new musical path as he dove into the rich history of the harmonica and began to learn a new instrument that was so vastly different from the guitar. The unique musical textures created by this tiny instrument helped broaden Rob’s musical vocabulary and improve his ability to play guitar by allowing him to look at music in fresh new ways. 

Rob has been writing and performing original music for over twenty years in both electric and acoustic settings. He began composing music early on, and was hooked on performing once he got his first taste of playing in bands with friends. His songwriting has evolved through the years just as his listening tastes have changed, but everything continues to be a mix of what has come before.  

Beginning in January 2019 Rob started recording his debut album, "Highs & Lows & Blues". Featuring some of his favorite musicians from the Hampton Roads area, it contains twelve blues based tracks that run from acoustic fingerpicked guitar to full on rock songs. Along with writing the songs and singing all of the lead vocals, Rob plays a mixture of instruments including all the rhythm guitars, harmonica, and also plays some bass and percussion on a few tracks. The rest of the music is filled out by a wonderful array of artists that contributed their time and skill to the project. The album was recorded by Joe Talley at SoniQual Studios in Portsmouth, VA and was released on February 15, 2020. It is available for purchase at all digital retailers and the Music Page. It is also available on Compact Disc at Rob's shows or at Birdland Music in Virginia Beach.

You can find Rob currently playing shows all over Hampton Roads and beyond as both a solo artist and as part of his electric band, Rob Oliver & The Attractors. In addition to performing he is also a private music instructor for guitar, harmonica, ukulele, and bass.

I make instrumental tracks for Hip-Hop artists and produce music for films and tv. I attended Berklee College of Music in 2006. I've played cello since age 8 and piano since age 5. I was featured in a book called "Steel Drumming at the Apollo," which tells the story of my band (The Hamilton Hill Steel Drum Band) at "Amateur Night at the Apollo." I am the bass player and a sound engineer in the a rock band, "Sonus Maximus." Some of my Influences are: Deftones, Snoop Dogg, Meshuggah, Dr. Dre, Jay-Z, A Perfect Circle, Gruvis Malt, The Roots, Tchaikowsky, Eminem, Miles Davis, Beethoven, Mutemath, Pharrell, and Radiohead.

Antwerp based band Psy’Aviah brings open-minded electronic music with energy and soul. Their
sound is best described as eclectric as they fuse several genres and into their own musical world. The
band was initially founded in 2003 by producer and composer Yves Schelpe, later joined by vocalist
Emélie Nicolaï and guitarist Kristof De Clerck.

IN DEPTH
Experimentation is one of the main
philosophies of Psy’Aviah. This is portrayed by
both incorporating different genres into their
own sound and by the different collaborations
they have done over the years: from poetry
with Suzi Q. Smith and Jean-Luc De Meyer
(Front 242), to EBM power-pop with Jennifer
Parkin (Ayria), covered by Chaos all Stars ft.
Mona Roukachi, and even to Enya-esque
reminders with Kristell Lowagie. Due to this
varied pallet in both music and lyrics, the band
fits well on different stages: from main-stream
pop, rock and electronic festivals, as well as
more gothic, EBM and experimental oriented
shows.

Formed in 2003, but mainly focusing on
experimenting and playing live shows, the
band really took form in 2007 when they
released their first album “Creationism”. After
that release Psy’Aviah was signed to “Alfa
Matrix” records and with them they released
the albums “Entertainment Industries” (2008),
“Eclectric” / “Eclectricism (2CD Limited
Edition)” (2010) and “Into The Game EP”
featuring Ayria (2011)
