"Yellow Bird" is the 8th and final track on "Time Shift". Originally, "Yellow Bird" was an old folk song from Haiti, which came from a poem originally written in French by Haitian poet, Oswald Durand, in 1883. The poem was called  "Choucoune" – the name of a woman. Michel M. Monton set it to music in 1893.  It is a simple song about a yellow bird in a tree, that is free to fly away, while the heartbroken singer is not.  
I wanted to write something like "Yellow Bird" because it was the first song my Dad taught me to play on the piano when I was small. I’ve always played it by freestyling the melody. I’ve had this little song in my head for many years.  
I wrote a new version – but the end result no longer bears any resemblance to the original "Yellow Bird". 
"Yellow Bird", apart from being an instrumental, and Tropical Trance, not Folk or Calypso, has Beats designed according to the criteria of music producer, Timbaland, in his Masterclass. 
It has a bass ostinato composed and produced by the mix engineer, Luke Garfield. That bass line gives it a dark, sultry sound that ends with a precise, dramatic Drop – a stormy beat followed by a dead air break. 
The light and shade in the song was amped up in the mix, and this contrast is enhanced by deep, reverberating vocalizations.
