At our special Father’s Day Celebration Service, Barr Kunle Lijadu brought a timely and stirring message titled “Faith Over Fear”, aligning with this year’s theme. He reminded us that while fear is a natural human response to uncertainty, God calls us to live by faith - a faith that steadies our hearts, calms our storms, and gives us the courage to lead and love boldly, especially as fathers and men of impact.

Barr Kunle encouraged everyone present to reject the grip of fear and rise in unwavering trust in God's promises. Anchored in scripture, his message reinforced that when faith takes the lead, fear loses its hold, and we step into purpose, protection, and provision. It was a powerful celebration of godly manhood and faith-filled leadership.

At today’s Holy Communion Service, Pastor Yomi Badejo-Okusanya brought a timely word titled “The Narrow Option.” He challenged us to reflect on the life of true discipleship — one that doesn’t follow the crowd but chooses the narrow gate that leads to life (Matthew 7:13–14 CEV, MSG, Easy). It’s not always the popular path, but it is the one that brings transformation and eternal reward.

Referencing 2 Corinthians 5:17, we were reminded that in Christ, we are made new, called to live differently. Pastor Yomi then expounded on the unshakable love of Christ as outlined in Romans 8:35–39 NKJV, assuring us that no trial, power, or circumstance can separate us from His love once we choose the narrow path.

Pentecost is a high day in the story of the church – not just because of the original moment of the Holy Spirit's arrival, but because every year we need to remember that our power and hope comes from God. The church's mission has never been dependent on smart, savvy, sophisticated people. It has always been about God working through the most unlikely people in the most unlikely circumstances.

Our summer series, Origins: The Story of God, Humanity, and Creation, will be focused on the book of Genesis, the remarkable story of God and creation, and humanity's role in the creation narrative.

We will begin the summer series with a sermon, "The Story of Us: Reading Genesis in Context". The sermon will be about locating ourselves as readers of the Genesis text and how to begin reading it appropriately for its genre and context. 

By equipping ourselves with the proper interpretive lens, we will be able to access ancient scriptural knowledge and meaning for our spiritual lives in the modern world.

6.15.25 - Message: The Story of Us: Reading Genesis in Context

Last Sunday we successfully began our summer sermon series, "Origins: The Story of God, Humanity, and Creation", and located ourselves as modern readers of Genesis, a pre-scientific, ancient Far East creation narrative. 

This summer, as Jenny is on sabbatical, we have invited guest preachers to preach on topics outside of the summer sermon series. This upcoming Sunday, Naomi Kinsman will be preaching a sermon titled "Practicing Presence" on Exodus 3:1-12.

Deep in the wilderness, Moses approaches a burning bush. In this unexpected encounter with God, he finds himself standing on holy ground. In our lives, too, sacred moments often begin with small acts of paying attention. How might God’s call meet us in our day to day lives? What doorways might open in our hearts when we dare to pause, listen, and practice presence?

6.22.25 - Message: Practicing Presence

At our vibrant Youth Sunday Service, Pastor Femi Paul brought us a rousing word titled “In Spite of It All!” A message of hope, resilience, and divine destiny.

He anchored the message on Job 8:7 (NKJV), reminding us that no matter how small or humble the beginning, God has promised a future that is prosperous, successful, and extraordinary.

Using the story of Gideon (Judges 7:4–7 NKJV), we saw how God does not need a crowd to bring victory. He just needs the right few. PFP also highlighted Jesus (John 6:42 NLT), whose background did not match the magnitude of His divine calling. The world may have questioned His origin, but purpose prevailed.

Jesus is the ultimate template for our youth, destined to rise and shine in spite of limitations, labels, or humble beginnings.

Pastor ended with a prophetic declaration from Job 8:7 in multiple versions, praying that:
- Your humble beginning will give way to abundant increase (NKJV)
- Your past will be eclipsed by a brighter, extraordinary future (CEV, CEB)
- You will become very great and successful according to God’s plan

Valley Presbyterian Church has an international reputation as a destination wedding setting, but for some 350 people in the Bay area, it’s more than a wedding, or even a Sunday, destination:  it’s our home.

Because of our proximity to Stanford and Silicon Valley, a lot of us work in academia or technology.  Because of our love of and passion for the arts, many of us are working artists, writers, and musicians – or aspiring to be!  We follow Christ in the teachings of the Reform tradition (PCUSA), though individually, our paths vary.  What we share is a longing for God, a connection to the community, and meaningful ways to serve the wider world.

Even though we are a destination church, we believe that we are called to risk the Spirit-led journey. And we are really one another’s traveling companions and support team along the way.

Grace Assembly is a family-oriented church! We are totally awed by the power of the life-transforming words that God so graciously speaks to us always.
