A contribution to International Day of Yoga adopted by the United Nations in 2014 and celebrated across the world every year on 21st June.
 
Often thought of, particularly in the West, as the practice of physical exercises or Asanas, including systems of breathing, the word ‘yoga’ derives from the Sanskrit and means to join or unite, symbolising the union of body, consciousness and the Divine.
 
Our speaker this evening will explore the relationship and connections between Hatha Yoga in its various forms and levels and Raja Yoga as taught and practised by the Brahma Kumaris.
 
Speaker: Bhavesh Ramji 
Bhavesh came to the practice of Raja Yoga meditation at a young age as his parents were regular attendees of the Brahma Kumaris Centre in Leicester.  In 2016, he decided to become a Hatha Yoga teacher and trained in Rishikesh, India, making multiple visits to complete his training.  He has been teaching Hatha Yoga professionally since 2018.  Inspired by his joint yoga practice, Bhavesh enjoys writing poetry and has published a series of three books in 2023, entitled 'Oceans of Love'.

Are we truly living in the Kingdom of God? This powerful message challenges us to move beyond simply seeing the Kingdom to actually entering and experiencing it. The key, we learn, is obedience - not just in word, but in action. Drawing from John 3:3-5, we're reminded that being born again allows us to see the Kingdom, but entering it requires being 'born of water and the Spirit.' This isn't just about baptism, but about a life fully surrendered to God's will. The message urges us to seek first the Kingdom (Matthew 6:33), making it our top priority in all aspects of life. It's a call to immediate, unquestioning obedience that can lead to extraordinary spiritual experiences and divine protection. As we reflect on this, let's ask ourselves: Are we crowding the doorway of the Kingdom, or have we truly entered in? The promise is clear - as we yield to God's sovereignty, we'll see His power manifest in and through our lives in ways we've never experienced before.

Entering The Kingdom of God A Call to Obedience

We're all obsessed with control and we tend to mask it under the guise of efficiency. We adopt and adapt new behaviors and practices that promise order in a world out of control. But it is precisely from the burden of control that we need relief. We don’t need better ways to control because, as Dave Zahl notes, “the problem with control as the be-all and end-all of existence is that [all the things] we use to control our lives often end up controlling us.”

And it is into the midst of all of this that Jesus embodies a life out of control. His time management is terrible, often letting interruptions interrupt the work of the kingdom. His evaluation of potential disciples is indefensible, calling fishermen and tax collectors to evangelism and community organization. 

If Jesus is trying to control people, he’s not doing a very good job. The movement he inaugurates dwindles the closer he get to Jerusalem, and by the end all the disciples abandon him. 

Jesus, to quote Zahl again, is clearly not a type-A personality. 

Jesus isn’t in the business of controlling people, if anything he’s in the business of relieving people, of freeing people, of giving them rest. In short, the way, the truth, and the life offers a different way...
