The following steps will use the Android version of Kawai's 
PianoRemote
 app as an example, however the procedure is generally the same regardless of the music app being used. Please ensure that the Android device is running Android OS 7.0 (Nougat) or higher with support for standard MIDI functions (android.media.midi API).


After much research I have come to discover (with 99.99% certainty) that the problem is entirely associated to a very simple programming choice made by the people who coded Chordana for Piano. It seems, in all likelihood, that Chordana for Piano uses the older (and less versatile) "android.hardware.usb.host" API to connect to MIDI devices, whereas Chrome OS only supports the newer (and much more versatile) "android.software.midi" API. That, and only that, appears to be the reason that Chordana for Piano is not able to connect to any supported Casio keyboards when running on Chrome OS.


How do I know this? Because I have tried several Android MIDI apps that do use the newer "android.software.midi" API (instead of the older "android.hardware.usb.host" that Chordana for Piano employs) to connect to my PX-S300 and they all are able to connect to my PX-S3000, working 100% as expected. However, when I try to run any other Android MIDI apps that use the older "android.hardware.usb.host" interface (like Chordana for Piano), they all fail miserably when trying to connect to my PX-S3000.


So, I would like to make the humble request, to Casio, that the newer "android.software.midi" MIDI API be used in Chordana for Piano instead of the older "android.hardware.usb.host" interface that is, apparently, being used now. The programming changes would be, literally, trivial and would cost practically nothing to Casio, but very many people (including myself) would be greatly benefited. Please, Casio, if you are reading, do help us. It would cost you hardly any money, but being able to easily use your software to control your great hardware would score major points amongst the electronic piano crowd.


The reason Google decided not to support the older "android.hardware.usb.host" API on Chrome OS but only the newer "android.software.midi" API (both used to communicate with standard MIDI devices, like Privias, Celvianos, and very many other brands of music equipment as well) is, patently, that the older "android.hardware.usb.host" has been deprecated in favor of the newer "android.software.midi". The gist is that Android is much older than Chrome OS, and Google has been learning from its many experiences and mistakes.


Do note that "android.software.midi" (the newer API) has been available since "API level 23" (googlespeak for Android 6.0, also known as Andorid M or Android Marsmallow), which was released to the public in 2015:





I am sure the only reason Google still keeps the older "android.hardware.usb.host" API around and includes it in newer (post 5.0) releases of android (without, I am certain, doing any further development on it) is for mere compatibility reasons, due to people's tendency to use older software on newer hardware, which I have nothing against and I myself do at ties. But anyone who happens to own a 6.0 or newer device is all set for the newer, Google-supported and much better "android.software.midi" API. Even better, anyone who happens to be using a chromebook or chrometab (probably hundreds of millions of people at this point) is also ready for the newer API.


With android devices, connecting your digital piano will follow the same process as connecting your iOS device. However, the big difference is that you will require a different type of cable as the Lightning Adapter is not compatible with Android devices.
