Synthetic Dreams 052 - Angrish

I'm just a small-town Canadian boy who loves music.

I started listening to electronic back in 2000 after my brother lent me some CDs for the summer from Sasha & Digweed, Moby, and Orbital. I got into the dance scene shortly after and found a strong connection to trance with DJs like Armin van Buuren, Paul van Dyk, and Ferry Corsten, while making some incredible friendships along the way. 

My first attempts at any kind of mixing were late-night vinyl sessions with my roommate listening to some classic trance and house and eventually putting together a simple set-up on my Mac to make some mixes for my commute. I’ve always liked the idea of being able to create a sort of soundtrack to my day-to-day and admire my friends who’ve made a career out of it as they bring such a positive impact to the lives of so many. 

I’ve spent the better part of my adult life abroad - first in China and now in Italy - and music has always been something that keeps me grounded and focused.

I've been listening to electronic music since I was old enough to tune into the John Peel show on Radio 1. Peel first introduced me to Chicago House, Detroit Electro and Rap. I would listen to an entire show with my finger hovering over the record button of my 'tape-recorder' close to the radio speaker just to record whatever 3 electronic imports he would play each night. I wish I'd kept those recordings.
From the moment I first heard 'Roxanne Shante' I sought out everything I could ranging from Kraftwerk, Mike Oldfield, Kurtis Mantronik, Africa Bambata, Grandmaster Flash, Gorgio Morodor, Axel-F, Jean Michel Jarre and just about anyone who used a synth to make music! With the arrival of House in the mid-late 80's the likes of Marshall Jefferson, Frankie Knuckles, Farley Jackmaster Funk, Steve Silk Hurley, Adonis and many more American underground House producers, the music had developed into a new, seriously exciting phenomena.
Music progressed at pace with House and Acid imports driving change, the UK in particular underwent an epiphany of sorts in the 80's and 90's. From Break-Dancing to New Romanticism, the music developed, finally morphing into the early genres of Acid Trance, Techno and Progressive Trance. Heavily influenced by American and underground Dutch and German artists and with the advent of clubbing and non-speaking mixing DJ's, it opened up a Pandora's box of new music, influences, sounds and styles. What that amounted to for me (and most others like me) was an ever-growing range of electronic music that was continually breaking free from pigeon-holes and mainstream pop culture. Electronic music had become the new classical music of a generation.
I can only say that electronic or computer music has evolved beautifully in the past 40 years and I love it as much now as the day I first heard John Peel play fantastic American imports.
I'm not anything more than a bedroom DJ and electronic music enthusiast. I have the greatest admiration for those who DJ publicly and seek to build a following or career from DJing, but that’s not a path I’ve tried to follow. I do love to put together great tunes, so for me using this sort of platform for sharing music is perfect for me. I do mixes both on my decks and using Ableton, as sometimes I find it easier to create a journey through that medium. 
As for making music, I’m slowly finding my way around Ableton in order to bring life to the musical ideas rolling around my head. 
Anyway, I hope you enjoy the mixes I post, please give me some feedback and if nothing else, support the artists themselves and buy their music.

Stefan from New York U.S. enjoys mixing different styles and sounds of Electronic Music.  Mostly Trance, House, Progressive, Organic and Techno too.  Because of his interest in mixing different types of Electronic music he has named his show Medici Sounds.  With his eclectic taste in electronic music,  and deeper sound, he delivers a unique experience that takes you through a journey with every set.
   Currently Stefan is a resident on AfterHours FM, Saturo Sounds Radio, and most recently Organic Deep House Radio (ODHR).  Stefan’s musical influences which has shaped his unique sound began with Rock, Hip-Hop, and Reggae.  In the Mid 90’s he discovered Electronic music and then particularly interested in the sound and style of Paul Oakenfold and his label Perfecto Records.  He also collected the Global Underground Albums which showcased household names such as Sasha, Danny Tenaglia, Danny Howells, Dave Seaman, Nick Warren etc… the list goes on.  He also follows other well know artists such as Deadmau5, James Zabiela, Carl Cox, Steve Lawler, Cameron Mo and many more.  These artists of varying styles shaped Stefan’s eclectic taste in music and style of mixing.

Composer, born in Poland and established in Paris (France), Sylvia Filus is graduated in Film Music Composition and in Orchestration (First Prize). 

She has composed music for several movies, chamber music ensembles, symphonic orchestra and big band. In 2008, at the request of the Pomeranian Society Musica Sacra and the Chamber Orchestra of Gdynia, Sinfonietta Nordica, she wrote the Cycle of 3 melodies for mezzo-soprano, barytone, and orchestra, which was performed during the festival The Music of Words in Gdynia (Poland). 

In 2010 she was commissioned by the Polish Strauss Society to commemorate Chopin’s 200 Anniversary and wrote Fantasia in "Salt" Minor performed by the orchestra Obligato at the Symphonic Chopin concert in the Salt Mine of Wieliczka (near Cracow). During the same year, Sylvia Filus was honored with the Trophy of Women‘s Success by the Association France-Euro-Méditerranée and became finaliste of the competition International Music Prize for Excellence in Composition awarded by the National Academy of Music.

In 2011 Sylvia Filus composed for her first feature film Le Bout du monde (The End of the World) by the marocan filmmaker Hakim Noury and for the documentary « Avec toi sans toi » by Francesca Ragusa. Commissioned by Lobster Films and SACEM for the european film collection on line Europa Film Treasures she wrote music for two silent movies: “Danseur de jazz” (feature) and “Troppo Bello!” (short). 

In 2012 Sylvia composed for the full length documentary « Fishermen » by Viktoria Marinov and in 2013 she has been awarded in the International Composition Competition "Artistes en herbe" in Luxembourg. 

In 2014 she took part of the B.O. Concert, 25 french composers film music concert in Paris and in the Spring Concert in Padua (Italy), where her piece "The Cobweb" was premiered by the orchestra I Solisti Veneti conducted by Claudio Scimone. 

In 2020, Sylvia Filus composed music for the movie « Quand je serai grande » (When I grow up) by Yves Levy, which received the Sacem grant for original music and in 2021, to the the poetry « Les plaisir de la porte » (The pleasures of the door) by Francis Ponge as well as the poetry by Jolanda Podejma-Eloyanne. 

On 2023 she writes music for the short movie « À Fleur de peau » by Kathie Kriegel and takes part of the program Crescendo and the residency TRIO from Maison du Film and Sacem.
