Indy Johar, Mission Steward of Dark Matter Labs, joins the podcast to help us rethink how we organize ourselves and our systems, addressing inadequacies of traditional business models that are no longer sufficient for managing complexities.

In this Deep Dive, we confront one of the most confronting and urgent issues facing Australia today—homelessness.

What begins with the raw numbers—over 127,000 Australians without secure housing in 2025—quickly becomes something deeper: a human story of crisis, neglect, and policy failure. With 103% growth in rough sleeping between 2020 and 2022, and over 54,000 people turned away from housing services in just one year, this isn't a temporary problem. It's systemic.

We explore the data, but also the disconnect: between the compassion of everyday Australians and the actions of some local councils using fines, evictions, and even excavators to displace people with nowhere else to go. We ask hard questions about human rights, international obligations, and what happens when authorities criminalise poverty instead of addressing its root causes.

We also shine a light on the extraordinary efforts of Australians through initiatives like the Vinnies CEO Sleepout, which has raised over $100 million since 2006. But as powerful and generous as these efforts are, the report makes it clear: charity cannot replace government responsibility.

This isn’t about politics. It’s about human dignity.

This episode is both a reality check and a call to action. Because the way we treat our most vulnerable citizens defines who we are as a country.
