SLACK004: Take Note - The Soul (SHAW Remix)

Slack Manoeuvres are keeping the heat ON in 2024, as the burgeoning label from Brighton’s emerging DJ / producer Faint Rings drops another club-focused release. This time, a remix from Taiwan’s own Take Note – “The Soul”, a record which originally dropped back in November 2023 and scored a lot of support from some of the biggest DJs in the scene right now including Eats Everything, Sidepiece, Martin Ikin and many more.
 
Now in 2024, we welcome not one, but two huge remixes from a couple of exciting and emerging artists in the scene. First up, we welcome SHAW, a Taiwan born DJ and producer based in London, who throws down a solid Deep Tech / Minimal take of the original, pushing “The Soul” into a deeper level that verges on Techno, perfect for any high-energy rave. Next, we have South African born, Taiwan based DJ and producer The Cook, The Thief debuting on the label, offering up a rolling Disco House edit which retains both the energy and vibe of the original, but adds in a funked up, grooving bassline that’ll keep DJs playing on repeat.
 
All in all, the “The Soul” has received some special treatment here, with two remixes that are not only different in genre but will equally bang through any Soundsystem they’re played through and get dance floors moving in no time. Both SHAW and The Cook, The Thief’s Remixes of “The Soul” land on February 9th, don’t miss out on this one.

“Go For It” is one that’s keeping in with the duo’s high energy, Tech House style productions, riding on the hype from previous releases whilst throwing in a fresh direction on their sound. Sampling a 1980’s styled home workout routine vocal onto a toughened-up Electro / Tech House sound creating an all-out dance floor workout that’ll keep ravers moving and grooving all night long. 

Take Note are one of the hottest artists to emerge from one of Asia’s burgeoning hotspots for underground electronic dance music and have had support from DJ Mag, Mixmag Asia, 1001Tracklist, Beatport, Eats Everything, Dom DOlla, Chris Lake, Sidepiece, AC Slater and Martin Skin to name a few.

My new mix is up and about! It comes highly recommended as a soundtrack for the next time you’re driving, in the supermarket, gym or thinking about storming the capitol. Whatever you’re into, enjoy the chase.

This is the fastest I’ve flown, cruising at an altitude of 128 BPM all the way until I hit the brakes at the 60 minute mark. If I had to describe this mix I would say it’s a wild ride through familiar tech house anthems laced with fresh high-octane minimal rolling techno. My better half thinks it's pop. I’d love to know what you think?

It is fair to say that Showtek never rest on their laurels. They have proven this time and time again. The same goes for their latest venture, their own record label: Skink. The label is intangible just like the particular species of lizard it is drawing its name from. The label embodies the characteristics of this unlikely emblem and so they will provide a diverse range of artists that represent different styles of music. Bristol-based Vexxy is carving a new space for his grime and wave flavoured cuts, using his unquestionable ability to create vivid productions that emerge from the backdrop of underground UK music. Exploring subtle influences of RnB and UKG through shifted vocal samples, soaring synths and sharp, staggering rhythms, Vexxy offers a powerful contrast to the expected constants of grime, breathing new life and a fresh direction into the rhythm and grime style that has branched out from the main genre.

He has released music on Plasma Abuse and on Terrorhythm. Championing and developing this section of the UK music ecosystem, Vexxy has received attention from a wide variety of sources, including legendary grime don and wave originator Plastician and online music publication Dummy Mag.

Additionally, Vexxy co-runs record label @esclabel, pushing and supporting the grime-wave sounds of growing creators in the scene.
