In this special edition of Talking MEWShop, Josh talks with "The Brutalist" Production Designer Judy Becker & Cinematographer Lol Crawley, BSC. The amazing work on this film has built super excitement for possible success at this year's Academy Awards. Judy and Lol, discuss symbolism in the film, such as the inverted Statue of Liberty, which sets a disorienting tone. Josh also covers design influences, filmmaking challenges, and the importance of creating an engaging viewer experience, along with future collaborations with Director Brady Corbet and Judy & Lol.

With his recent work on the Oscar-nominated "The Brutalist" from director Brady Corbet, Lol Crawley BSC is a cinematographer celebrated for his compelling visuals, intelligent lighting and versatile ability behind the lens. The feature is set to star Guy Pearce, Adrien Brody, Felicity Jones and Raffey Cassidy.

Outside of film, Crawley has directed cinematography for groundbreaking television such as "Black Mirror," "The OA," "Utopia." For his work on the series "The Crimson Petal and White," Crawley earned a BAFTA TV Award nomination for Best Photography and Lighting: Fiction.

Crawley’s accolades include a Best Cinematography Award from the Sundance Film Festival for "Ballast" and a Spotlight Award nomination from the American Society of Cinematographers and an Independent Spirit Award nomination from the Film Independent Spirit Awards for "The Childhood of a Leader." Similarly, he earned a Haskell Wexler Award for Best Cinematography at the Woodstock Film Festival for his work lensing "On The Ice."  

Judy Becker is an American production designer. She was nominated for an Academy Award in the category Best Production Design for the 2013 film "American Hustle." Her nomination was shared with Heather Loeffler. Her husband Michael Taylor is a film editor and a script supervisor.

Paul Hirsch, ACE, has edited over 40 films, among them the first "Star Wars" written and directed by George Lucas, for which he received an Academy Award in 1978, and "The Empire Strikes Back"; 11 films for Brian De Palma, including "Carrie", "Blowout" and "Mission: Impossible"; four for Herbert Ross, including "Footloose", "The Secret of My Success" and "Steel Magnolias"; three for John Hughes, including "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" and "Planes, Trains & Automobiles"; and "Falling Down" for Joel Schumacher. In 2005, he received his second Academy Award nomination for "Ray", a biopic based on the life of Ray Charles, directed by Taylor Hackford. 

He is the author of a memoir titled "A Long Time Ago in a Cutting Room Far, Far Away."

Sean Albertson's journey into the world of entertainment began amidst the vibrant arts scene of New York City. Born into a family deeply rooted in the entertainment industry—his father a versatile musician and film editor, and his mother a seasoned Production Manager and Assistant Director—Sean's earliest experiences revolved around music, acting, and the magic of filmmaking. As a young performer, he graced both stage and screen, even landing a role as an extra in the Academy Award-winning film, "Kramer vs. Kramer." Alongside his passion for performance, Sean found his rhythm in music, particularly drawn to percussion and vocals, which he honed while playing with various bands.

However, it was the transformative power of storytelling through film editing that ultimately captured Sean's imagination. Embracing his innate creativity and inherited talents, he transitioned seamlessly into the world of film post-production.
