OCCAM OCEAN - Occam IV for Viola

Eliane Radigue, a pioneer of experimental music, presents *OCCAM OCEAN*, a viola concerto performed by artist Julia Eckhardt. In recent years, Radigue has composed musical pieces co-created with performers through a working method based on the development of an individual "image," which is evoked within each solo. Each musician is guided by their personal "image." Through this intuitive-instinctive process, they embark on a journey to the very essence of music, becoming both the source of the performed piece and its channel of transmission.

A stable and deep atmosphere that is listened to with the body, from which sound events emerge. These represent the manifestations of the ego in what should be a state of total dissolution.

Based on methodologies used by Eliane Radigue, the work contains sounds induced by the feedback of microphones installed in the room, waves caused by e-bow and stone on the strings of a piano soul, manifestations of nature in the city, some purely urban sounds like the sound of traffic lights, the sound of the Earth collected with a geophone in the surroundings of the European Parliament and in the cathedral of Brussels, some symbolic sounds that represent a moment.

Marta De Pascalis is an Italian musician and sound designer based in Berlin. She has presented her work at various festivals and venues such as Berlin Atonal, Museo Reina Sofía, Biennale di Venezia, Berghain, Volksbühne, Café Oto, and Mutek Festival. Her discography includes the self-released Quitratue (2014), Anzar (2016) on The Tapeworm, and Her Core (2018) on The Wormhole. In 2020, she released Sonus Ruinae under Morphine Records.

Julia Eckhardt is a musician and organizer in the field of the sonic arts and at the intersection of composed and improvised music. She is a founding member and artistic co-director of Q-O2 workspace in Brussels.
As a performer of composed and improvised music she has collaborated extensively with composer Éliane Radigue, next to other artists such as Phill Niblock, Pauline Oliveros, between others, several of them being represented on recordings.
She has been teaching and lecturing at Lemmens Institut (Leuven), Transmedia (LUCA Brussel) and La Cambre (Brussels). She is author of The Second Sound, conversation on gender and music (umland), Grounds for Possible Music (Errant Bodies), The Middle Matter – sound as interstice, and Éliane Radigue – Intermediary Spaces/Espaces intermédiaires.

A dark ambient soundscape that unfolds like a demonic insect rising from the depths. Crafted using the Behringer Wasp and a chain of pedals (reverb, distortion, overdrive, and echo), this piece creeps slowly and ominously through a fog of layered textures. It evokes the feeling of drifting through an abandoned industrial tunnel haunted by unseen forces. Perfect for fans of ritual ambient, drone, and sonic darkness.

Last year, under the moniker Murkla, Mattias Lagerkvist aka Ekolali took a more aggressive and fantasian approach to the repetitive style he's been carving out for himself over the last decade.  Despite the overall kosmische sound, and the absence of both of guitar and vocals, Leviata became something of a mirror, reflecting his roots in the 90s metal and hardcore scene of far north Sweden.

But now, in the wake of the sea serpent, with an album two years in the making, Mattias emerge once again as Ekolali.

Like trapped on the tracks of a merry-go-round, this freight-train of sound circles a lush landscape of pulsating drones and swathes of white noise. With it's arpeggiated guitar-licks and melodic bongo-like bass and drums as it's underframe, For Why You Happy takes you on an ouroboric ride of joy.

No seats, no belts, just hold on as it's chomping to chug.

This is the first piece I recorded with the Echo Fix tape delay made in Australia - a perfect modern version of the Roland Space Echo.

The myriad of objects, once propelled to the heavens,

Each as small as a fleck of paint
Move as fast as a speeding bullet
At a hundred times the rate
This creates more fragments
With each collision
A self-propagating disaster

Who visits it?
What flowers rot on it now?
Do you feel the soil above you pressing down?
Do you scratch the coffin lid in your dreams?

Look at your hands.
Why don’t they tremble like the living?
Why don’t they sweat?
Why do they pass through the table when no one blinks?

When you look in the mirror, what looks back?

A short piece of experimental music composed using a series of disintegrating delay processes, echoes, and ever fading warped piano.

For ten days I'm in RELOAD mode, reworking all my creations from the past twenty days and transforming them into a different musical universe
The entire sound is in my hands. I write cyber poetry, produce, and compose every track ready for Immersive 3D. Every beat is crafted for spatial and next-gen headphones.
Intimate lyrics, total immersion, every track.

For 30 years I kept unfinished demos to myself, never letting them out. Now I finish what I start and release it the moment it’s alive.

Bambino: One shop destroyed. Three heads split like overripe melons. One man wounded and one castrated. All in two hours. Just two hours I left you alone. Two hours.
Trinity: Well, you asked me to give you a hand.

Aldarrax is an experimental music and sound art label based in Blanca, a small oasis in the arid regions of Murcia, in southern Spain. The main objective of the label is to connect people and territories through sound, to build community and to make space for experimental sound practices. Half-made music, new collaborations and unorthodox recording techniques are at the core of the label’s editorial line. 

Occasionally, artists are invited to create specific works, proposing collective improvisation sessions to generate spontaneous music. Field recording, soundscape composition and DIY instruments which incorporate local materials are encouraged. We resonate with peripheral, dissident and strange music. Aldarrax holds music as a ritual and animistic tool that strengthens bonds and works on bodies to create altered states of consciousness in autonomous zones. We are interested in repetitiveness, broken rhythms, trance-inducing sounds and durational practices that search for these other realms beyond the human.
