Genesis 1 presents the steps God took in creation.  First, God took steps to form that which was tōhû and bōhû (i.e., unformed and unfilled) and then proceeded to take that which He formed and filled it.  Thus, days one through three, God is forming creation and days four through six, God is filling creation.  On day one of creation God formed space and on day four, He filled it.

Having established what happens when someone refuses to repent, what is the responsibility of a believer or a church to the sinning believer who does repent?  When a believer repents of their sin, they are to be forgiven.  Hence, Jesus sets forth the fifth kingdom value, the value of forgiveness, in Matthew 18:21-35.  Directly responding to Peter’s question and using a parable, Jesus teaches that forgiveness is unlimited and an act of mercy and grace.  As well, failure to forgive is immoral and will be punished.

Psalm 112 declares the glory and reward of righteousness.  In an age when wickedness is praised and lauded and righteousness is mocked and jeered, is it worth striving to live righteously?  Psalm 112 answers this questions.  Indeed, it is worthy being righteous because it is the means of achieving blessing from God.

Psalm 116 about death and deliverance.  The psalmist found himself surrounded by death but then he cried out to God and was delivered.  This psalm finds its fulfillment in the Gospel.  Humanity is dead is sin but when a sinner cries out to God, confessing their sin and believing the Gospel, God, in turn, delivers them from the penalty of sin.

Jesus addresses how one’s words reflect the genuine nature of one’s heart.  The pericope in Matthew 12:33-37 can be titled, “Heart Reflections: Words Matter.”  Words matter because they reveal whether one’s heart is good or evil.  Furthermore, words matter because the words of their mouth will judge one’s heart.

Psalm 119:137-144 imparts lessons about reverence for God’s righteous judgments, commitment to righteousness, recognition of human frailty, reliance on God’s deliverance, desire for divine understanding, affirmation of God’s truthfulness, praise for His righteousness, and dependence on His Word for comfort and strength. These lessons inspire believers to honor God’s standards, pursue righteousness, seek divine understanding, trust in God’s deliverance, and find comfort and joy in His Word.

Psalm 119:161-168 imparts lessons about commitment to God's Word despite opposition, reverence for divine ordinances, prayer for understanding, affirmation of God's righteousness, trust in His faithfulness, delight in His law, remembrance of His Word, and desire for deliverance. These lessons inspire believers to remain steadfast in their faith, to honor and obey God's commandments, and to trust in His unfailing love and faithfulness, even in the midst of trials and challenges.

This passage reminds us that wisdom is not elusive but available to all who seek it with an open heart. It underscores the inclusiveness of God’s wisdom, which is generously offered to guide our steps, shape our character, and lead us in paths of righteousness.
