METALLECON | WHY COFFEE BEANS BE DOUBLE?

Time to dip into the pre-SoundCloud era for Interbay, as another Monday means another RRR (Rethink, Remake, Remix) of a track that originally debuted as a music video on Facebook in 2023.  After staying in the very earliest for these RRR mixes for the first few, we're jumping all the way up to Experiment 88, which, in this RRR version, will be known as "Motorik Roll."  

This is a Motorik-style song about Motorik beats and songs/bands that utilize them.  If you've never heard the term "Motorik" before, this song will teach you.  If you're already familiar with "Motorik" then this song should put a smile on your face for how meta it all is.  

"Motorik" is a term most associated with "krautrock"--the experimental bands of the 1970s coming out of Germany, like Can, Neu!, Kraftwerk, and plenty of others (many of whom are named in LCD Soundsystem's "Losing My Edge" as being influential on where music would evolve to include in the next decades..  

I understand that some people feel that the term "krautrock" is offensive--I'm not meaning to offend anyone by using them.  There doesn't seem to be another word to describe what I'm trying to describe here.  

I should also note that the Kraftwerk being included here is less the electronic minimalists that they are best known for being--but the earlier version found on early albums Kraftwerk, Kraftwerk 2, Ralf & Julian, and Autobahn--those first three of which have basically been disowned by Kraftwerk as non-canon experimentalism in a more rock-ist direction.  Indeed, in these early days future Neu! drummer Klaus Dinger (one of the performers who has helped to define and describe what is meant when music critics discuss "motorik beats") was a contributing member to a far more conventionally instrumented--though certainly still as adventurous--version of Kraftwerk.  

The video for Interbay's Experiment 88, which can still be found on Facebook, incorporates live footage of this early version of the band from Winter 1970 (as shared by Rockpalast)--it may be the first time that the band was ever broadcast.  I am very fond of this footage--despite my using it to share Interbay music with it, homage or not--as the journey from hipster cool to confusion to enthusiasm that the live audience experiences is particular delightful.  (As is Florian playing the flute and Ralf playing a rare tube synth.)  

I'm not saying that Interbay is anything like Kraftwerk, Can, Neu! or any other band that could be lumped into the "krautrock" genre..merely that this track was always meant to pay homage to the sounds that would develop into the sounds that Interbay would be most influenced by--both on the post-punk side as well as the dance side.  

With the addition of some vocal elements, some eq and fx tweaking--and a cheeky easter egg for those who speak German (slightly given away by the new name this track's been given)--I'm proud to share this Interbay experiment with you as a proper Interbay SoundCloud track.  

I hope you'll take a listen to this bit of time travel, love signalling and, possibly, cultural appropriation (can one appropriate something based on cultural appropriation?  not sure...)  It is nowhere near as experimental as what it is paying homage to, as it does fit into the category of mutant pop quite well.  (In other words, it's got a good beat and you can dance to it!)

[Techno Rock] Rahab's mission – Rahab Punkaholic Girls

"I can just about remember who I used to be.  I'm not sure about this current version of me."  

The past couple of weeks have been emotionally rough for me, and it is always interesting to see if my emotional state influences the music I make.  And I definitely feel my struggles in the darkness and tension in both the music and the lyrics of this latest Interbay track, "Xpectations."  

The music is a rusty machine chugging along, doing the best it can to do the job it was built for--but it sounds like it could shatter into pieces at any moment.  The lyrics are some of the most personal that I believe I've crafted for any Interbay track ever...where I absolutely don't feel like I'm at my best and I'm trying to find the self-confidence to project a feeling of adequacy, the sliver of interest that might still be conjured in someone else towards me, the difficulty of marketing a flawed product...especially when that flawed product is me.  

...so, yeah.  A little dark and tense.  Not enough to save it for the upcoming Spooky Week, but certainly enough to make for a listenable and effective Interbay track.  

I always say that mmy latest Interbay track is one of my favorites I've ever made--and I definitely feel that way about this track.  I love the chuggy grind of this track, the combination of drum machines, synths, and guitars.  For as simple as the melody and arrangement is, there's actually a lot going on here, but I don't think it ever gets too busy.  Yeah, I think I did good with this one.  I hope you'll agree.

[Techno Rock] Rahab's mission – Short Edit

"Tonight's got me in crisis.  Going to a party thrown by Dianne Isis."  

Late last night, I was checking the shelves of The Vault for a track that I might post today.  I had a few choices.  One of those choices was a moody, sad, ambient indie pop tune.  The other prime candidate I was considering was also a moody, sad, ambient indie pop tune.  

I know that the past few Sundays, I've made it a point to post one of the "prettier" Interbay tunes--but that's not a rule, just a trend...a fad, even.  I thought to myself, if I get too predictable...it won't be fun for anyone.  

So, even though I was tired and even though I had a bunch of things I wanted to get done, I just decided:  I should make a guitar-centric rock with synths.  You can still feel the steam coming off of this track, because I'm posting it fresh and piping hot.  

If you're wondering about the title or what the lyrics mean--Google is your friend.  I wanted a track with a title that started with the letter K...and I found the word "Kordax", looked up what it meant, laughed my silly head off...and I said "OK."  (I felt like Peter Gabriel writing "Sledgehammer"--only, I realized quickly that I couldn't pull that sort of confidence off...so, I swapped genders.)  

This is basic stuff, I understand.  Bog standard.  Anytime an Interbay track has any guitar on it, it probably isn't going to impress any actual guitar players--but that's not the point.  The point is--did I get the idea of my song across?  Does it work?  

I think it does.  Of course, if you're more of a fan of more purely electronic/dance oriented stuff I typically do...this might not be your thing.  I get it.  I'd still appreciate it if you gave it a listen--because you never know...  (And trust me, there's plenty of dance stuff coming...and, at some point, a couple of downtempo sad & moody tracks.)

Even during Spooky Week+, a Monday means an exclusive remix from Interbay's shady past--back when tracks were not posted exclusively to SoundCloud, but posted (with a music video, no less) over on Facebook, exclusively.  

Because tracks I posted there did not have to follow the same guidelines that I use for tracks posted here, I've begun to put these tracks through RRR:  Rethink, Remake, Remix.  It is a chance to imagine these older tracks in new ways, to get them up to SoundCloud Exclusive standards, to find structure, to add vocal elements, to make the track sound better--based on the skills and experience from having produced music a couple of years more than I'd done when I posted these songs to Facebook.  

And is this one Spooky?  I believe it is!  

The track that had been "Experiment 40" was an effort towards post-punk on a grander scale--and there are few inspirations on as grand of a scale as the New Zealand film "The Quiet Earth."  

The madness that ensues from finding out you're the last person on the planet, the uncomfortable relief to find out that you're not...not quite.  And the last shot of the film?  One of the most dramatic final segments in movie history.  If you haven't seen it, you should.  

I'm noticing an unexpected theme this Spooky Week+.  Loneliness.  This could be a subconscious cry for help...or just an acknowledgement that things are spook when you're alone.  Time will tell.  

Tribal drums, dramatic strings, swells and synths--with only a few choice movie snippets (and one vocal sample that is not actually from the film.)  I think this song verges on terrifying (but, in a good way.)

SPOOKY WEEK CONTINUES!  
(Thank you to everyone who took the time to check out "Absence of Light" from two days ago.  I will now ask that you do the same and, if you haven't already, give a listen to yesterday's Interbay track, "Around The Fire"--as I really believe it deserves more ears than it has, so far, received.)  

I mentioned yesterday that going into Spooky Week, I had three good candidates to be the Interbay track that drops on Halloween, proper.  "Around the Fire" was one, and today's track, "Nosferatu" was another (guess you'll have to wait for tomorrow to find out the third--ooooh, the suspense is killing you, I know!)  

In fact, I would say that I was strongly leaning for "Nosferatu" to be THE Halloween track for months now, as "Nosferatu" was conceived of, worked on, and finished around the same time that the track "Herbert" was, and "Herbert" posted 140 days ago!  (I'd originally planned to keep "Herbert" for Spooky Week, but there was a day when I didn't have another track finished and ready to drop, so I was pressed into posting "Herbert" when it wasn't specifically thematically appropriate.  A similar thing happened with the Interbay track "January," which probably would have earned more listeners than it got had it actually come out IN JANUARY, rather than at the end of summer.  Whoops.  

"Nosferatu" is nasty, symphonic, industrial, metal...with drum machines, synths, strings, and heavily distorted guitar.  The vocals, when you can hear them, often come out as snarls...or as oddly accented repetitions of the title.  

(I was also fairly certain that the thumbnail was going to be Max Shreck as Count Orlaf from the silent film classic titled "Nosferatu"--so, this upload is NOT going how I thought it was going to go, at all.  See--these daily drops ARE a surprise...even to ME!  :) )  

This strongly reminds me of the solo project that my guitarist/songwriting partner from the late 80s/early 90s put out--that "Stigmata"-era Ministry and Scraping Foetus Off The Wheel combination of over the top arrangements and hard rock sounds with machine beats.  

I've certainly always been a big fan of that sound and I imagine that if DangerScience had lasted past 1991, that might well have been the direction we pushed ourselves towards (after we gave up the idea of being a live performing band--though, we were that...we were a damn good one, too.)  

This isn't a Count Floyd style "spooky"--this is full on horror...a "Hellraiser" to an "It", perhaps...  

Now that you have been warned, I encourage you to listen to "Nosferatu" by Interbay.  Compare it to yesterday's "Around The Fire"--which would you have picked to be dropped on the day before Halloween?  

And, obviously, if you like it...give it a like, consider reposting it or sharing it or adding it to a playlist or leaving a comment on it!  All of those things help the metrics (which I know you don't care about, but it puts a smile on my face.)  

...an evil, menacing, smile (considering the time of the year.)

About the founder :









Music was my first language, a passion that took root before I could properly form words. I spent 16 years studying piano, including two at the university level, though I didn't graduate. By fourteen, I was already sealing envelopes, sending my demos out into the world with a teenager’s hopeful desperation. I spent years trekking to office buildings, dropping off those tapes, until I landed a meeting with the late, great Morris Levy. He was the first to call me out on what he saw: I was all over the map. Opera, Bluegrass, and everything in between—I had no distinct genre, just a deep, abiding love for sound.

That eclectic ear was forged in the Southern Baptist church, where I was taught piano for one reason: to ensure the choir always had a musician. I played that role faithfully until a single, accidental experience—attending a service on acid—shook my faith in the institution, though never in God. It was a turning point among many too numerous to mention.

Morris saw my chaos not as a weakness, but as a strength. He suggested I stop trying to fit into a box and instead build my own. He was right on point. So, being who I am, I turned away from hip-hop and rap and dove headfirst into the rock market. That leap of faith became Cheektowaga Records.

My process is my own. I work in Cubase or Magix, and I don't rely on A.I. for composition—my tools are synthesizers, samples, and a network of incredible session singers and musicians I hire from across the web. While I might use an A.I. studio to sketch a demo, the final product is always human.

To many in the industry, I’m a villain; to others, a savior of sorts. And unlike most executives, I write the majority of my own releases. But don’t mistake me for another Frank Farian; my operation is built on a different kind of alchemy.

The work you hear started as unpolished demos. It has taken a lifetime to hone them, and the polishing is a process I’m still deeply immersed in. A more detailed story is coming in a book, but for now, recognize this: I am not "gay," I am Vince. And Vince is a man of many contradictions. I've had meaningful relationships with both men and women; my preference is for adults, connection, and chemistry, not a specific gender. I don't really have a type, and I believe a person can be fluid, loving one thing one day and something else the next. To each their own.

Trust me, I have lived an interesting life. Read the book. As for the music, enjoy it or not—we all have our preferences.

I am a visual artist. I have shown work internationally. I am a PhD. I taught in Universities in UK. 
I arrived here in Sweden in 2017. I had been in a few bands since I was a school kid. I liked the. Beatles and the Rolling Stones. Later at art school inLondon I got into the underground scene and gravitation to U.S. bands like the Grateful Dead and Frank Zappa. Through Zappa I got to Miles Davis, Weather Report.
My own music is eclectic. Many influences. I like keyboards. Still learning . I work on Roland Juno DS.

SINCERE IMPOSTER is an intimate collection of artists who write, perform and/or produce a curious mixture of New Wave, Dance, EDM, Folk Rock, Metal, Art Pop, Electro, Dreamwave & Experimental World Pop. Collectively, it's a genre known as QUIRKPOP --- Music that tries to push the creative limits of traditional pop.

SINCERE IMPOSTER is curated by two musicians, both living within the same body, sharing a similar existence. They identify as Danielle & Dave. They are both psychologically and musically confused. However, both are extremely and unapologetically sincere. 

Influences include Weird Al, Nathan Fielder, David Lynch, Rosalia, Monatik, Atarashii Gakko!, Rammstein, T-Pain and T-Swift. Danielle & Dave's favorite inventions are the vacuum and the peach pitter. Their father is simply known as Vessel... who may be an entity or a god.
