Callum John Macguire was born at 2am
Three months premature, the son of Jack and Jen
For ten years they'd been trying, and they'd both broke down and cried
When they found out he was dying, with barely time to be alive

Those tiny hands, those tiny feet, the bandages and tubes
His dad out in the parking lot, so helpless and confused 

He said 'I've often been a sinner, and I'll never be a saint
So listen to me Satan, there's a deal I'd like to make
My soul can burn for all eternity
As long as Callum makes it through, then just take me 
And that's the deal, that’s the deal

It rained that day and all that night, their son kept hangin' on
His tiny fist kept balling up like he was trying to be strong
The nurse said 'he's a fighter', but the hope had left her eyes
Then Jack received a message, and he took his phone outside

I'll take that deal' the message said 'You won't get the chance again
Park out on the level crossing west of town at 2am'

You should never trust the devil, but some deals don't come cheap
So he went inside and kissed his wife so gently in her sleep
And a tear fell for the son he'd never know
And then he went outside, got in his car and drove
‘Cos that’ the deal, yeah that's the deal

They said it was a miracle, never seen the likes before
And when she asked them where her husband was, they said he just walked out the door

On a lonely level crossing, in the wind and teeming rain
He could heard the distant rumble, of that speeding hellbound train  
In case resistance crumbled, he'd thrown away his keys
And as the train bore down he smiled and calmly leaned back in his seat

Time froze as the devil pushed the car down off the track
Then fifty tons of freight train did it's best to pull it back
And that's how come I'm standing here to talk to you
I guess there's some deals that even the devil just won't do

I received the fantastic news this morning that four of my original songs (one a co-write with Paul Harris and what could be regarded as controversial and somewhat unique, another song that came from a collaboration with Sunio AI), have been selected as semi-finalists in the International Songwriting Competition.
