Ok so hear me out...This one's a little different. 

We've been working on 'Two Tokes' for a couple months now, it kind of took on a life of it's own through the creative process. With previous collaborations, B.Helix and myself have done large sections and meshed them together, with this one we wanted to use a different formula. Six sections, three from both of us, alternating through the course of the mix. Starting off with an abstract mesh of samples (TF?) from myself, melding into a delicious tune from The Cinematic Orchestra featuring Roots Manuva, which kind of sets the tone for the journey. Abstract 7 is more of a Cinematic Journey of Sound, utilizing various cultural sounds and styles. Both of us tried to meet each others styles halfway, delving into hip hop, lyrical flavors, driving middle eastern sounds, live, big room tracks, deep vocals, complex drums, deep and trippy breakdowns, ambient sounds with spoken word, original production from B. Helix and various tracks peppered with eclectic samples to add a bit of flavor. 

Our Magnus Opus as a duo thus far I believe.

We Didn't really have a plan going in as to the overall feel of the session but it began to take shape as the set evolved. 'Two Tokes' is an auditory trip, a journey of sound. Take the time to listen all the way through if you can and you'll see what we mean. Hope you enjoy the ride, we enjoyed the creative process.

Abstract Series _07 (B.Helix & Sw3rv3) 'Two Tokes'

Inspired by the chicks hatching in their nests outside my window this spring, this ecstatic dance is designed to explore the experience of incubating, growing, struggling to break free, and then hatching, the shock of finding ourselves in this world, bumbling around, growing, finding our power, spreading our wings, flying, and becoming ourselves, and then landing in the world as that newly formed self. This theme can be explored on both literal and metaphorical levels: we can enjoy pretending to be a bird, or we can give ourselves the human experience of rebirth – finding more of ourselves, as we are now, through this ancient movement practice. Or both!

Most of the songs in this mix have a specific meaning to this dance itself, and anyone who wants to know should email me, as SoundCloud doesn't offer enough space for me to add that in here (justine.dembo@mail.utoronto.ca). There are also some overall musical themes between the tracks, such as sounds that mimic wings flapping, or various other animal or forest noises…and the occasional rough transition to symbolize the wobbliness of being a young bird learning to fly and take off and land…

What if I allow my consciousness to meet my animal body anew, recognizing that throughout my entire life, I have this earthy, grounded, pure animal as my companion and protector? How would I want to meet that body? How would I want to allow it to introduce itself to me? What happens if I make my consciousness secondary…just let it step aside enough such that my body can reveal more of its nature to me? 
Maybe my body would respond differently to the beat… 
Maybe my body can show me how it feels and what it wants and what makes it sing with joy, and maybe it can show me more of the truth of the present moment, unfiltered by thoughts, ideas, stories, and rationalizations…
Maybe when I feel frightened and alone, I can turn to my body and draw comfort from its warmth and solidity…
Maybe my body holds my connection to the spiritual. After all, some of what my body perceives is ignored or perhaps even misunderstood by the intellectual mind. My body may have access to much more than I realize…

Take a moment and look around your space, how much of what you see has not been designed? It's very safe to say, even if designed poorly, almost all physical matter around you has been created by design. This is our world. 

We needed a warm place to sleep, so we created beds.  We wanted comfort so we innovated materials to provide warmth, comfort, support. We want our beds to look inviting so we design an array of models. 

Everything around you made by man which you can't live without follows the same pattern.  There exists a need, and that need is met with creative problem solving and design thinking, and often innovation to deliver the best possible solutions to that need, this creates good business too, and serves society. 

The mission of Design in Focus is to demonstrate the value of CID through engaging with those in the field and finding supporting evidence such as statistics and cases.

The vision of Design in Focus is to have a channel for and by CID people to not only engage within their networks, but also to provide valuable info that can help bring their relative stakeholders along on topics related to CID.

Providing a platform for artists to share a common passion for music through their mixes since 2020. Started simply as an outlet for the local Mobile Unit crew to post mixes, Sound Stream Sessions has been blessed to host talented Dj's and producers from many different labels and from all over the world, as well as hosting events locally through the Sound Stream Series here in VA.
