The Empire State set, recorded live, captures the raw spontaneity that defined my early days behind the decks. I embraced the spirit of digging through crates, spinning records with nothing but intuition guiding my selections—just like the true pioneers of the craft. It’s this authentic connection to the music that I now bring forth as I invite you into my church of sound. In this sacred space, my DJ setup acts as a pulpit, where I dispense the gospel of groove. Reuniting with my crew, The Posse, was like stepping into a time machine, back to the golden days when they were at nearly every one of my gigs, vibing with the music and bringing the energy. This time, we found ourselves in a spot called Ed's Garage, reminiscing and catching up. As fate would have it, an aspiring DJ (DJ-Knott), son-in-law to one of my Posse brothers, decided to put the legend to the test. He’d heard the stories and wanted to verify and witness for himself what this seasoned DJ could do.
 
Handing over control of his throne, he sat back, eager to soak in the experience. Before I even touched the decks, I asked him what he wanted to hear. His response? “Do you know how to play Reggae?” I just smiled and threw the question back at him, did he know Reggae? He laughed, saying of course, given his background.
 
And so, it began. I started with some old-school, vintage reggae, easing into the rhythm and letting the music take over. About 45 minutes in, he turned to me and asked, "Are you recording this?" Of course, I wasn’t, but that was all the encouragement I needed. I hit the record button and let the session unfold organically. What was meant to be a short demonstration stretched into a marathon, filled with deep basslines, hypnotic melodies, and pure vibes while displaying my diversity with musical categories. 

Andy was hooked, completely lost in the flow. My Posse brothers, meanwhile, sat back, eyes glazed over with nostalgia as some of these Reggae, Soulful House, and Salsa tracks transported them back to the nights they'd defined. I caught Eddie mouthing the lyrics to some of the songs with a mischievous glint in his eye. Malik, usually so stoic, was actually moving his shoulders swaying subtly to the rhythm. Andy shook his head, a look of bewildered awe on his face. "Man," he said, "I get it now. I really get it."

I smiled, a genuine, heartfelt smile. I hadn't come to DJ, I'd come to reconnect, to be in the moment with my Posse brothers. But in the end, the night had taken on a life of its own, blending nostalgia, rhythm, and passion into something truly unforgettable. The recording, I realized, wasn't just a record of the music we played. It was a record of the magic we'd created, a testament to the enduring power of friendship and the timeless language of music. It was a perfect evening, all around.

I'm a person who loves music and creating mixes of full-length songs for friends along my travels. I like to spin with no setup, just playing off the top of my head while in the moment.  

Currently, I am sharing the mixes with my long-time friends and a new audience. I come from listening to the great DJs at the Gallery, The Garage, The Loft, The Shelter, Zanzibar, The World, The Tunnel (early years), Baseline, Funhouse, The Fever, Bonds International, 1018, on WBLS (early 80's), and too many street parties to mention.  These were the times when people danced (worked it out) all night into the morning and not just bobbed side to side. 

My love for music started in the early 70s as a way to channel my energy in a more positive direction.  Music became my teacher about life's many situations. I gleaned a lot from music, which became a significant part of my lifestyle. Later my older brother started me DJing for private parties in NYC.  

All that training led me to DJing in my travels. Traveling since 1981, I visited 49% of this big blue marble sharing the NYC flavor.  This was when most NYC DJs didn't venture outside of the tri-state area making me a unique commodity in my travels to Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, the Middle East, and too many more places to mention here.  None of these nights would have been as memorable if it wasn't for the support of my many friends worldwide!  All of you should stand up now and take a well-deserved bow!

I have DJ'd as the recording media changed through the years from 8-track, reel to reel, cassettes, DAT, Minidisk, CD, MP3, and so on ... This site is just a place to share my music of live club sessions (typically 5-8 straight hours of DJing) with my long time friends who have asked for me to convert their analog recordings to digital format for old time sake. You also get to experience my evolutionary growth in this field.

My humble mixes have the occasional recorded mistakes (record skips, rough mixes, etc.). This is unavoidable when recording live shows directly to the media as I honed my skills through the years. There are not any post-production corrections in the work, you hear the good, the bad, and the ugly mixes. 

All mixes were recorded live, mixes earlier than 2001 went direct to magnetic tape, and after 2001 were digitally captured while staying true to the music, and the dancers' way of life, as my mind's eye feels about the mix at that place in time.  I also made all attempts to pay respect to the artists who created the sound. 

The venue is my church, the DJ booth is my pulpit, and the music is my sermon.  Come on in and listen as I pour out my heart and preach!
