Here is a track recorded at Perryvale Studios by the late, great Pat Collier. I wrote this track when I was a member of The Stranglers and it appeared on Stranglers In The Night. During that session, Pat recorded a number of one-take pieces for reference. I will be adding it to my singer/songwriter set.

Here is a re-working of my first solo single, Babies In Jars, released over 40 years ago. I created it mainly to try out the updated version of Ableton LIve and some orchestral software. The original single was a live recording of a performance by Rapid Eye Movement, a shortlived band that supported JJ Burnel on his Euroman tour. We used a lot of electronics in the band and the keyboard player went on to join The Radiophonic Workshop, producing some fantastic music. The original performance started with a kick and hi-hat from a Bentley Rhythm Ace drum machine and this new version uses samples of those Bentley sounds. There is an insistent riff going through the piece originally played with guitars and bass but now replaced with strings. I have also kept some of the original micro-tune ideas. Lyrics are the same, of course. The guitar solo that I played onstage while interacting with one of our 3 fantastic dancers who was dressed in a giant romper suit with baby mask has now been replaced with an angry thrash-out. Best heard on headphones. When I re-released the track on a vinyl EP, I asked the great Steve Hillage to remix the track. During that session, I added ebow guitar.

This page features a variety of unreleased and unpublished songs,demos and instrumentals by UK composer/musician John Ellis. He has worked with major names in UK music (The Stranglers, Peter Gabriel, Peter Hammill etc), but has also been at the front end of electronic music since he got hold of his first synth (Minisonic 2) in 1973.

John is currently looking for an agent for live work as a solo singer/songwriter. 

He has created audioscapes for Art exhibitions and film, some available as commercial releases.

Ellis has now started CHANOYU RECORDS. The first release is WABI SABI 21©, an album by John Ellis of electronic instrumentals inspired by the Japanese Tea Ceremony. Already receiving some nice reviews, Chanoyu Records are looking for international record labels to license our releases.

Betweenzone, a pioneering duo composed of EAST (Guitars, Vocals, Synth, Production) and Dave M. Rile (Vocals, Synths, Programming, Production), has been at the forefront of musical innovation since their formation in the mid-90s. Their journey, characterized by a deep passion for experimentation and evolution, has seen them traverse a variety of musical landscapes, establishing a unique and evolving sound in the industry.

Beginning with explorations in Electronic, Dance, and Experimental genres, Betweenzone set the foundation for a diverse musical career. This journey reached a pivotal moment with the release of their critically acclaimed debut album "Full Artificial Intelligence" in 2018. The album, a blend of electronica, progressive rock, and alternative rock, showcases their unique sound that draws comparisons to artists like Filter and The Smashing Pumpkins.

"Full Artificial Intelligence" features tracks such as “Endless Me,” which blends potent fuzzy guitars with Rile’s distinctive tenor, and “Please Come Down,” showcasing their progressive rock influences with layered guitar licks. The album was lauded for its complex harmonic textures and solid rhythms, marking a significant milestone in Betweenzone's musical evolution.

In 2020, Betweenzone released the EP "Mosaical," an artistic and experimental tour de force. The title track "Mosaical," nearly twenty minutes long, is an epic musical journey, blending emotive progression with sensational guitar work and an experimental edge. "Contamination Procedure 2020," another track from the EP, merges electronic elements with intense guitar tones, creating a captivating and dynamic soundscape. This EP illustrates Betweenzone's ability to craft music that is innovative and accessible, characterized by inventive composition and engaging execution.

2023 saw the release of "Means Of Control," a concept album delving into themes of personal freedom. The album confronts topics like religion and control, especially in the opening track “Brothers And Sisters.” It also includes unique covers of "Golden Brown" by The Stranglers and "I Feel Loved" by Depeche Mode, demonstrating their versatility and ability to reinterpret classics. The album is a reflection of years of artistic development and showcases their boldness in lyrical content and thematic exploration.

Throughout their career, Betweenzone has consistently defied expectations, delivering music that is artistically ambitious and engaging to a broad audience. Their spectrum of sounds ranges from heartfelt ballads to colorful indie/pop, highly experimental tunes, and innovative concepts, underpinned by a strong work ethic and a genuine interest in music creation.

Carnival Of Thieves were formed by Andi Stevenson in December 1990 and come from Rotherham in the North of England. 

The music is a blend of Hard Rock, Stoner Rock & Seminal Punk also influenced by many sub genres of Rock from the late 60's onwards. So far we've released 4 albums. Our new album Den Of Thieves (ReVamped) was released to all online streaming services on Monday 4th April, 2021. It includes 15 songs plus 14 free bonus songs. We have plans to release it as a Double album on CD/Vinyl as soon as we have the budget for it. We are currently working on a new album called "Scallywags" which is about 75% completed and we will look to release this in July/August later this year.
