The Story of Sarah Barker is an analogy to the story of #ShamimaBegum. If you haven’t heard of Shamima, her story was a massive high-profile case in the UK where 3 British Bengali school girls aged 15 to 17, left their hometowns to join the enemy regime in #Syria known as #ISIS. After living under the #IslamicState, she decided she made a mistake and wanted to return home to London and stated she was groomed into a false ideology. However, Shamima's #BritishCitizenship was revoked and was banned from returning home. This song touches on the different narratives you heard about this case – was she truly groomed? Is she a liar? Can we trust her? Why is the country so divided? And who’s responsibility is she? My song DOES NOT choose a side but highlights the different perspectives of this prominent case and asks a BIG question – would Shamima Begum get this same treatment if she was a white girl named Sarah Barker?
