This week on Killer POV, Elric Kane (Inside Horror) fills us in on his recent trip to Vegas with a stop by Eli Roth’s Goretorium and also lets us know what he thinks of the newly released (on DVD/Blu-Ray) Texas Chainsaw 3D. Rebekah McKendry (Fangoria) gives us the low down on the 1985 cult classic Tenement, while Rob Galluzzo (FEARnet) checks out the 2 new latest Blu-Ray releases from Scream Factory: The Town That Dreaded Sundown and The Burning. The group is then joined by filmmaker Rodney Ascher, the director behind the documentary Room 237 and they first touch upon the cinematic work of Stephen King before diving into an all things The Shining! Plenty of theories and interpretations from Stanley Kubrick’s film (which make up Ascher’s documentary) are all touched upon here. So won’t you come play with us?

Doctor Sleep

Free Samples takes a deep dive into the history of hip hop by focusing on the samples that make up some of the genre’s most iconic albums. Select songs from each album are dissected in detail. Each original sample is played followed by an explanation of how it fits into the song we are examining. After each sample in the song of focus is broken down, the song is played in full. 

The Shining by J Dilla is a showcase of the legendary Detroit producer's prowess despite his battles with TPP. Like Donuts, The Shining was produced as Dilla was in and out of the hospital and was left uncomplete upon his death. Its completion was entrusted to hip hop producer and jazz drummer Karriem Riggins, who completed the album which released in 2006. Many of J Dilla's iconic techniques are showcased on this project, including his unique "Dilla Time" drum pattern and unique song splicing.

We want to play with yooouuuu!  Well, we at least want you to listen to our latest episode, Pet Sematary (1989).  This is an interesting movie to watch because viewers run the gamut of emotions, from laughing out loud to covering their eyes in terror (for about 10 min in Marie's case).  There are also some pretty solid takeaways, like keep your cats indoors, don't let toddlers play next to busy roads, and never let your significant other single-handedly pick your house.  So stop your shilly-shallying, grab a Zelda cocktail and listen up!  You know the Zelda cocktail we paired with this movie is good since we were all too willing to have 3.

Pet Sematary

Doctor Sleep is the sequel to the Stephen King horror classic, The Shining, and is one of the better King movie adaptations that you probably heard was crap and so you didn’t see it. The truth is, it’s pretty darned good - if you watch the right version (ie, the theatrical cut or Mike Flanagan’s director’s cut). This is a rare occasion where the director’s cut is actually worth it, and not just a chance to see boobs.  But it also exists within the very long shadow cast by Stanley Kubrick’s original masterpiece, which Stephen King hates.  It is a complicated situation, is what we are saying. But watch Doctor Sleep and you will be rewarded, we promise.
