 With recent collaborations including 'Crazy Culture' and 'Step by Step', house and techno associates Mar-T and Luca Donzelli are back to present their debut EP 'Historia Roja' via Davide Squillace's This And That imprint.Scheduled for release on 15th July, the four-track EP sees the pair deliver a series of tribal-infused rollers, with opener '1234' working an infectious vocal sample layered over a deft, percussive backdrop. The rattling sounds of 'Analog Men' follows, whilst 'Tartune' also features a vocal remix from UK based DJ and producer Betoko - all wrapped up by the aptly named 'Tribe'.'Historia Roja' also marks the second in a nine-part series from This And That designed to showcase a brand new release concept. Kickstarted by Emerson Todd's 'Brown Glass', each release requires the artist to provide an original image, word and colour to accompany the EP, with Mar-T & Donzelli's offering featuring exclusive, hand written sentiments.

Basti Grub returns to Davide Squillace’s label This And That Lab for his fourth EP on the imprint. Having already proven himself to be one of This And That Lab’s most popular artists Basti Grub has also featured on other labels including Moon Harbour, Bar 25 Music, Stil Vor Talent and Moan. Along with being a successful solo producer he has also collaborated with many other artists including his recent outing on Mobilee Records where he teamed up with Timo Maas and Eric Volta.

One of Germany’s most consistent artists, Basti Grub’s unique blend of quirky percussion and catchy synth lines give his jazz influenced tech house tracks an unmistakable sound. Complementing the three original tracks is a remix from Spanish artist Cuartero, who along with DJing all over Europe, boasts an impressive back catalogue including music signed to the likes of Hot Creations, Saved Records, Desolat, Knee Deep In Sound and VIVa MUSiC.

Opening the EP is the tribal groove of “Adansonia” which compliments the dark atmospherics and the haunting Spanish vocal. A medley of textures and fast flowing rhythms, this track is very much in line with the trademark style of clubs like DC10 in Ibiza.

The second cut “Day Dreamer” is on a similar vibe to the first but uses a muffled vocal sample as its main hook that gets layered with a vibrant mix of percussive textures and delicate synth parts. Dark and twisted, the shuffling rhythms enhance the captivating atmosphere brought to life by the creepy vocal.

Third on the EP is the solo remix from Cuartero, who for his version, has decided to focus on the originals percussive textures, stripping back the other parts except for the delicate melody synths. He also adds his own dramatic vocal stab, which works to give extra impact to this rhythmical rework.

Dropping the tempo to wrap things up, “Checking You Up” has hip hop style samples fused with chanting textures of a looped vocal that adds to the flow before opening out into soothing female tones. ‘80s influenced, this charismatic slice of tribal house has a timeless sound full of personality.

Davide Squillace's label This And That Lab is back with a new release from G-Flame, who is better known to some under his techno alias The Advent.

Alongside the solo original from G-Flame there is also a remix from Riva Starr who along with heading up his own label Snatch! Records, has featured high profile tracks on labels ranging from Hot Creations to Adam Beyer's Truesoul.

As The Advent, he has also released music on labels that range from Drumcode to Tresor, and under his G-Flame alias has been a regular collaborator with Mr. G, plus done solo works on imprints such as Darren Emerson's label Detone and his own Alpha Recordings.

Riva Starr is an Italian artist currently based in London, and is one electronic music's elite with his own in demand productions and also collaborating with the likes of Green Velvet, Fatboy Slim and DJ Sneak.

'Heaven' is the solo original and its jazzy melody layered over rolling percussion form the foundation of the groove that's got just a hint of funk. It's the soulful tones of the vibrant vocal that really brings this jacking cut to life. Uplifting and perfect for the summer, this floor filling monster is the perfect blend of timeless elements.

Track two is the Riva Starr remix which is a bass heavy version that has tiny drop in tempo to allow for the funk to take full control. Working in some extra percussion this chunky remix has touches of the original's techy vibe but focuses on the house music elements to subtly change the genre. Careful not to lose touch with the vocal or prominent melody elements, this masterful remix ticks all the right boxes.
