We explore the Independence Day of the United States of America and the words of Thomas Jefferson, which became etched into American history: “For we hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal and that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights, among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness."

We agree with Abraham Lincoln he said: “there needs to be a rebirth of freedom in every generation.” Every generation need to applies the principles of liberty in a new way. In our times, what are the implications of that wonderful and powerful words?

We also remember the great words of Jesus saying: “If you continue in my word, you are truly my disciples; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” (John 8:31, 32). Freedom is being the kind of person we are intended to be by God. We do not have the freedom to fulfill our whims but to do the will of God.

The lyrics to this piece are a poem written by Thomas Jefferson on his deathbed for his daughter Martha Jefferson Randolph. Jefferson died on July 4th, 1826, 50 years to the day after the Declaration of Independence he famously authored was issued. The "two seraphs" (or angels) he references in the final two lines are his wife Martha and daughter Polly (Martha Jefferson Randolph's mother and sister), both of whom had died decades earlier. The words are as follows:

Life's visions are vanished; its dreams are no more
Dear friends of my bosom, why bathed in tears?
I go to my fathers; I welcome the shore
Which crowns all my hopes, or which buries my cares

Then farewell my dear; my lov'd daughter adieu
The last pang of life is in parting from you
Two seraphs await me, long shrouded in death
I will bear them your love on my last parting breath
