A Trance Yearbook of 1999 - Part Eight

We were so proud when we heard that we were opening the Orange, the mighty Hardtrance stage of Defqon. As a young kid, I was already listening to Defqon on ID&T Radio back in 2003. So it really was a dream coming true! Enjoy our set, with the live-audio from that day.

When I first started using FL Studio, in addition to the usual Trance & Progressive House I am known for, I've also experimented with a style I call "ProgWave", a portmanteau of Progressive House & Synthwave. 

I've done remixes of many trance classics and more in this style.  It's been a while since my most recent, however.

1998 is a classic that should be no stranger to lovers of Electronic Music.  Like Cafe Del Mar & Age Of Love, it has withstood the test of time through various remixes over the years, including some by the likes Paul van Dyk, Ronski Speed, Alex M.O.R.P.H. & more.

It came out originally in its namesake year, but I've wondered.....What would 1998 sound like if it came out in 1988?  This remix strives to paint an idea.

Malta’s Very Own N’Heaven is an upcoming International Deejay, which came a long way down the road, clocking back to 1994, where he made the very first appearance, playing House & Italo Dance at the time, till 1996 when he fell in love with an Electronic Genre of Music called Trance..He was the first Deejay in Malta to introduce the sounds of Oakie, Tiesto, Ferry , Tiesto, and Armin Cygnum X , Mooguai and many others to Malta .. Trance was still in it's roots Globally, and an Unknown Genre on the Island.. 

Then … there was no turning back!

N’Heaven managed to Set the First ever Club Night in Malta, packing a Local Fifteen Hundred Capacity Club every Saturday night for more than 100 Weeks ..

N’Heaven organized Sold Out Events, such as L’esperanza , Five, Legends of the Beat to name a couple..

Packed Tattingers Club with his N’Heaven Solo concept, with a record breaking attendance with his Dash Berlin event, with the footage of the said night seen more then Half a Million soul on Youtube !!!

Played alongside Big Names, Including Tiesto & Armin Van Buuren in Malta, and made appearances in every single club & Bar on the Maltese Islands..

Brought to Malta as his Guests loads of International Artists, From Sven Vath to Jeff Mills, From Rank 1 to Dash Berlin, from Justine Suissa to Lucy Saunders.. 

Locally, there is really nothing more to be achieved.. So the Next Mission is taking the N’Heaven Sound across the GLOBE !!

DJ Nitro has spent 27 years crafting a sound that fuses modern trance energy with the golden age classics. Nice to meet you. My name is Randy Derricott, an Autistic EDM DJ/producer & Pharmacy Tech based in Coral Springs, Florida (a suburb of Fort Lauderdale) by way of Richmond, Virginia.

Active since 2004, I mainly make & play Trance & Progressive House.  I also sometimes let my nerdy side show by playing what I call "Comicontronica" or EDM remixes/covers of songs from video games, anime & the like.

My adventures have had me perform at a number of venues throughout South Florida as well as some of the biggest conventions in the US, among which include Anime Iwai, Otakufest, MegaCon, Kirbiicon, Colossalcon Ohio & Ichibancon in North Carolina.

At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, I put making music on the backburner to focus on my DJing adventures, both on Twitch and, once things eased, live shows.  I've recently decided to jump back into the music making pool again.  While I do have a Soundcloud with music I made under a past alias, I've decided to make a brand new Soundcloud, since I'll be using my real name going forward.

Born in the hot summer of 1979, I grew up in the center of The Netherlands. At the age of 12 I discovered the wonderful new genre of House music. Still a schoolboy, I used all my pocket money to buy cassette tapes of famous Dutch house compilations like Move The House, Turn up the Bass & House Party. In the following years several new subgenres emerged, in which the melodic ones were my favourites. That means lots of Eurodance, and instead of the popular Dutch Hardcore, I chose for German Rave and Hardtrance. That combination of powerful beats with lots of melodies was golden and formed my music taste.

Some years through genres like Dream House, Club Trance and the famous Pizzicato house followed and the first Trancemaster! CD’s were collected. And then the year 1999 came, I discovered a strange imported English mix compilation called Gatecrasher:Wet
It contained a wonderful combination of trance tracks from all over Europe. At that moment I started to save some money for buying my first turntables. When I bought my first 2 belt drive turntables and a basic mixer a new world opened. The world was far less international so it was quit a challenge to get those gems from abroad. In 2005 this trance addiction was expanded with producing my own tracks with the then brand new FruityLoops software. Exploring all ranges of trance music my production portfolio is very diverse, like all the different music styles I like to play. 

Being a bedroom producer and DJ for many years my collection grew to about 2500 records ranging from deep progressive house to hardtrance. Around 2007/2008 vinyl records stopped being the main medium for electronic music and things were getting all digital. Missing the fun part of buying and spinning part of records, together with a changing sound of trance made that spinning music was not on my highest rank anymore. But although not too active, this was the period that I discovered harmonic mixing, which still forms the base of all my mixes. By combining the harmonies of different tracks, my mixes are full of homemade mash-ups and by using the harmonic mixing wheel I try to make one continuous journey through harmonies.

In these years my turntables and record collection were gathering dust. I still followed the trance scene sideways and made an occasional mix (with Virtual DJ) or track. In 2018 something changed. I decided to go to a trance festival again after 15 years, so me and my friends made a trip to Luminosity Beach Festival 2018. I was overwhelmed by the fact that this scene was so much more alive than I expected. Especially the fact that there were so many DJ’s that still played those classic trance tracks. Inspired by those sets I decided to upload some of my older mixes on my SoundCloud page for all those classic trance lovers. 

In the past 4 years I created my own themes for my mixes, some modern ones but lots of classics. For example my yearbooks in honour to those golden years of trance. My Exhibition of Classic Trance does reflect my personal taste the best, those mixes are always more than 3 hours to ensure a complete journey through different styles of trance. My personal favourite series is Hidden Treasures, which completely consists of all those hidden gems from back in the days. Of course I love the obvious classics, just as much as all trance lovers, but mixes with only the well-known classics are sometimes a bit exchangeable. With these hidden treasures I can let people discover tracks they never heard of and be more unique. It’s my pleasure to provide you all with a broad range of trance music.
