My name is Ali - I’m an artist, musician, intuitive sound healer, educator, and coach. Music has been the thread that carried me through the darkest seasons of my life and became the anchor that helped me reclaim my voice, purpose, and power.

I was born into a storm. My parents were young and struggling, and I absorbed the chaos they couldn’t contain. By age seven, I was already battling suicidal ideation. That pain continued for years, even as I went through therapy, medications, and diagnosis after diagnosis—depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, PTSD.

But there was always one thing that brought me back to life: MUSIC

As a kid, I carried a Little Mermaid karaoke machine like a lifeline. I sang everything—my emotions, the day’s events, the feelings I couldn’t explain. We didn’t have much money, so I learned to create with whatever I could find. Music was never about perfection—it was my only place of peace.

I followed that passion into academia, earning a Bachelor of Science in Music Media Production, a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance, and a Master of Music in Vocal Performance. I studied theory, pedagogy, songwriting, recording, and more. But even as I built my career, my trauma was building too—bulimia, sexual assaults, domestic violence, an armed robbery. Panic attacks became constant. I didn’t understand I had PTSD until much later.

What truly began to shift things was EMDR therapy—a trauma-focused modality that helped me reconnect my emotional body with my intellectual understanding. It wasn’t easy, but it was the first time I felt in control of my emotions. Around this time, I also began deep spiritual work—practicing Tarot, shadow work, inner child healing, and ancestral connection. I finally understood the voices I’d heard for years weren’t madness—they were spirit.

In 2021, I moved to Chicago and met DC, a musician and magical practitioner who encouraged me to reclaim freedom in music. He eventually become my partner in music and life. With him, I began building community. Then, in 2023, I lost my corporate job, our car was stolen, and DC also lost his job. It was a devastating year, but also a divine invitation. I realized I could no longer separate healing from my art—it was time to combine them.

That’s when Artists Roots truly began to bloom.

Artists Roots started in 2020 as a heart-led voice and piano studio but is now growing into a space for healing through music. Yes, I still offer traditional services—lessons, coaching, recording consultations—but I also help people access their emotional core. We use music to process grief, trauma, and transformation. We use our voices to heal.

Music stimulates the limbic system—the emotional brain where trauma lives. This is why music can make us cry or give us chills. It speaks directly to the body. Through intentional music-making, we release blocked energy, reconnect with our inner child, and transmute pain into power.

DC and I are also building a broader healing community in Chicago—hosting sliding scale workshops and monthly co-creation circles where artists gather to create, grieve, and grow together. We believe healing is communal, and through music, we can lift one another up.

I want to see a world where artists are free—not trapped by trauma, but empowered by their truth. Music saved me, and I believe it can save others too. Artists Roots is my offering to that mission.
