Three different random sequences played by holding one note on a single pigments patch + Hive2 Bass. 

Each sequence is generated by transposing one of pigments oscillators (OSC1+2 WT, Sub OSC) with a random turing oscillator and scaling the pitch to a custom scale. Additional melodies are generated by transposing the internal pitch delay.

Tuning this was a real PITA. It's not perfect but i like it :)

Listening with headphones is highly recommended.

Atelier : Que peut l’homme que ne peut la machine?


Reda Benkirane explore comment Alan Turing, à travers ses travaux sur les machines pensantes et son fameux Test, a contribué au développement de l’intelligence artificielle (IA) et, par extension, du transhumanisme. Benkirane met en évidence les pesanteurs de l’expérience personnelle (psyché et sexualité) et des pressions sociales sur Turing, qui se reflètent dans son article “Computing Machinery and Intelligence” publié en 1950. Le Test de Turing, visant à évaluer si une machine peut simuler un être humain (par induction en erreur, leurre et dissimulation), aura eu des implications déterminantes sur l’IA, le numérique, et, selon Benkirane, sur les questions actuelles de genre et de transhumanisme.

En reliant Turing au transhumanisme, Benkirane explore l’évolution technologique à travers le prisme des sciences sociales et dures. Il utilise les théorèmes d’incomplétude de Gödel et de l’arrêt de Turing pour délimiter les frontières de la mécanisation du raisonnement. Benkirane évoque également l’approche visionnaire de Turing sur l’IA, en mettant en évidence les mécanismes – mais aussi les bizarreries – du jeu d’imitation où une machine peut simuler l’humain.

Le texte initial de Turing, en apparence axé sur la logique et le formalisme, révèle en réalité une dimension psychologique , influencée par les tourments personnels de son auteur. Cette dimension personnelle, émotionnelle complètement ignorée par les scientifiques – qu’ils soient logiciens, informaticiens ou cognitivistes -, est souvent négligée mais imprègne plusieurs  aspects de son article qui pose initialement la question de savoir si les machines peuvent penser. Benkirane souligne que le texte/test de Turing devient une fenêtre sur les questions d’identité, de genre et de psychologie dans le contexte de l’IA et de la machine.

Dans un monde actuel où les frontières entre réalité et virtuel, vérité et mensonge, humain et machine deviennent floues, Benkirane pose le défi de préserver notre discernement face à notre dépendance croissante à la technologie et à l’IA. Il souligne l’importance de maintenir un regard critique et pose la question de savoir s’il n’y a pas d’autres formes possibles d’intelligence artificielle fondées sur d’autres prémisses que l’induction en erreur, le leurre, la dissimulation et la simulation.

Finalement, Benkirane prévient contre les biais dominants du numérique et de l’IA, soulignant que derrière les avancées technologiques se cache un risque d’asservissement de l’agent humain, sa machinisation et sa réduction à du bétail cognitif. Il appelle à la vigilance pour préserver notre humanité face à ces évolutions.

I don’t write songs in the traditional sense. I prioritize sound and theme over grammar or logical narrative. I often look between the moments we usually skip — the pauses, the loops, the unfinished thoughts.

It’s immersive, like film music — but you have to imagine the film.

I listen to myself. I write down what the song says.
Sometimes it says:

You’re not supposed to “understand” it.

This style — I sometimes refer to it as Beat Listened.
