On Twitch, your upload bitrate is the amount of data you send to Twitch when you stream. A higher bitrate takes up more of your Internet bandwidth. The higher the bitrate, the better the stream quality. So, the higher the bitrate, the faster and more stable your connection needs to be. If you lack a fast internet connection, your stream wanes, leaving your viewers with a pixelated stream.


In addition to these suggestions, you can also work to grow your channel to become a Twitch Partner. Twitch reserves bandwidth specifically for its Partners. But before weighing your options, always consider your viewers. Not every viewer has the download speed that can match your upload. For most Twitch viewers, a bitrate of 6000 kbps is too high. So, in some cases, lower is better.


Twitch recommends different bitrate settings based on your chosen resolution and framerate (frames per second, or fps). The most common resolution options on Twitch are 1080p and 720p, at 60 fps or 30 fps.


As the title says, I've been streaming at 720P/60fps with streamlabs for days, but when looking at my streams afterwards (to check quality) I realize that in many moments my stream looks pixelated and lacking in quality.


Keep in mind 60fps streaming is supported on PlayStation, but not Xbox in any capacity. The current bitrate setting limitations already seem okay for 60fps, but there's no option to stream 60fps. This immediately puts Xbox streamers at a huge disadvantage as 30fps is disgusting to watch.


So I've been trying to get more into streaming on twitch, but my streams just really never look that good. I run at a bitrate of 3000, at 720p 60FPS, using Nvidia NVENC (I don't have enough CPU power to use x264). Here's a VOD:


Either way, should I change up the resolution/FPS/bitrate to get it to look better? I don't want to change the bitrate that much because a lot of people have buffering issues when I go above 3000Kbps, plus if I remember correctly twitch doesn't even allow over 3500 for non-partnered channels.


You have enough CPU power to stream, I stream 720p60FPS just fine on my nifty little i3. I don't know about Overwatch but I can stream things like Rocket League without any issues. You need a much higher bitrate to use hardware encoder.

Your stream design is looking gorgeous with overlays, alerts, webcams and more. But your actual stream looks choppy and honestly not great. This could come down to an issue with the bitrate and resolution that you chose. So how do you make sure that you have the right settings?


You need to figure out what your upload speed is to know how much bitrate you can send. This can be done by running a speed test on your network. You can Google speed test to find free tools to perform the test. You can also visit speedtest.net and run a test using their interface.
