Radio EP #14

KINETIC ENERGY BOUNCING IN WAVES

London by-way-of New Zealand producer SDS MAX arrives on excess, armed with 4 imposing leftfield cuts, including a razor sharp collaboration with Bristol MC Grove.

No time for pleasantries, ‘Tun Up’ opens with Grove’s hypnotic vocals layered over rippling drums and high-end synths. The energy builds to a stomping hook while Grove holds court over the swelling bass, conducting and guiding you through. Track 2 ‘Sleep Walker’ resets the levels with dreamy melodies before SDS Max forces you awake with dubby bass and the crack of a snare.

Combining clap shots, metallic sonics and oscillating stop-start bass, ‘Two Holes in Your Umbro Jumper’ gives off the eerie buzz of a rave on an abandoned space station. Imagine walking the endless corridors, with ravers rattling around in zero-g and strobes lighting up the airlock. We’ve not reached the outer solar system yet but SDS MAX knows how to bring the vibe back to Earth. Closing track and EP namesake ‘Murky Water’ features a total onslaught of percussion, bass, and laser gun synths likely to turn the dance on its head and leave the crowd reeling.

With previous releases for the likes of Vief and Hefty Bruises, SDS MAX continues to push forward on this solo EP for excess.

SDS MAX MURKY EP CLIPS

Munay is a DJ and producer who specializes in Techhouse, UKG and (UK) Bass House when creating new tracks. It was through (UK) Bass House that he became interested in producing and spinning his own music. He draws inspiration from artists such as AC Slater, Marco Strous, Endor and Iglesias (UK). More recently he also tries to learn from artists like Malugi, Morgan Seatree and Interplanetary Criminal. 

As a former bassist of an alternative rock band, Munay appreciates a solid bassline. Munay is the stage name of Willem van Ruijven, a Dutch DJ with Peruvian roots. Munay translates from the language of the Q'eros, Inca shamans in Peru, as ''love from your soul'' with the underlying meaning of ''be true to yourself''.

Amsterdam-based DJ and addict of electronic beats & sounds. Host of the
weekly show Offbeat Transmissions on Amsterdam's Most Wanted, aired every Wednesday between 10pm and midnight (CET). Co-founder of Lässig and resident DJ at bar Prik and café Brandon. 

Originally hailing from the southern city of Tilburg, Kristiaan has called Amsterdam his home for over 15 years now. His passion for electronic music has been driven by the rich scene in Amsterdam. Particularly the eclectic sound – where any style goes as long as it flows - championed at venues like Trouw, De School and Dekmantel Festival fueled his passion for dance music and has shaped his ongoing desire to discover new music. 

He has a passion for digging and blending together sounds spanning over several decades, every corner of the world and all subgenres of house, techno, electro & disco. Whether it’s soulful and uplifting vibes for a sunny afternoon, or dark and melancholic tunes that would fit a dark and sweaty basement. Of late his sound has increasingly moved towards 80s & 90s inspired electro and progressive house & progressive trance. This sound is central for the event series Lässig, which Kristiaan started with cathü & Ketrix and hosted two successful events at Oosterbar in 2024. 

Kristiaan plays at several bars in Amsterdam – most regularly as resident at Bar Prik and café Brandon - where he mixes up his house and disco gems with classics and pop. Also, in 2024 Kristiaan made his debut at the renowned Amsterdam-based queer club De Trut.
